Just a thought before I attempt to do the rotor switch.  Does the voltage regulator have anything to do with the issue I am having? I haven't tested it. Seems ok at speed.  Just at low rpm I'm having problems.  Thanks.   ???

Doesn't sound like a regulator problem.  You're headed the right direction.

:2vrolijk_21:      If you want to spend some $, "Cycle Electrics" has a 50 amp,3 phaze conversion for our rides that is much better for low RPM. I have run this set-up since last summer after voltage reg. wouldnt work for the team. I'm much happier with this upgrade purchased through J&P Cycles :pumpkin:   :orange: take the time check it out .

How much was this aftermarket kit?  From Zanotti's the 2006 model three phase rotor, stator and regulator can all be had for about $300.  It's a pretty simple change with the three parts in hand.

For the gain we'd get at idle I'd not spend the money to make the upgrade.  If I ever had a regulator die and take a stator with it (or vice versa) as they commonly do I'd change it all out at that time though.  It is an improvement.  So if changing most would change it all.

I think I'd like to give that a try.  I think my bike would just run properly if I had the voltage where it needs to be.  Is that an easy install? Hopefully it would all plug in together?  And would the regulator fit in between the oil cooler.    Thanks again for the help.

It's not a hard swap.  But it's not quite plug and play.  Have done it a couple times.  Last time was at least 18 months or so ago.  So the memory may be less than perfect.  Interconnects between the three parts are plug and play.  Should be of course as they're intended to work together to begin with.  Regulator is same size as the old regulator.  So it'll bolt directly in place of the old one as will everything around it.

Only difference is the connection from the regulator up to power and ground.  Did this to one 2001 bike and a 2004.  They're different between themselves also.  So I'm probably confusing the two a bit.  Basically, however, the long legs that come forward from the regulator to power and ground have to have their connectors changed to mate to the bike.  That's all the retrofit there is though.

I've not done this to either of mine.  Just used the 45 amp rotor to up the existing charging systems.  Overall output of the 06 and up three phase system about the same.  So no great change there.  You will see more output at idle and low RPMS.  Though we're not at idle much so I never worried too much about that.  Would also see a beneficial change in the smoothness of the charging system's delivery going from single phase to three phase.

Stuart, there's one thing I forgot to mention during any of our discussion in this in the thread or in PM.  If you do the 45 amp upgrade of the existing charging system or swap to the newer three phase with its higher output don't forget to replace the maxi fuse.  If you have enough accessories on the bike to actually fully exercise the larger charging system you might pop the stock 40 amp maxi fuse.  Having all the lights suddenly go out and everything suddenly shut down some dark night just wouldn't be fun...

Don,,, thanks again for all this great information.  If I did for the upgrade to 50 amp system, I should find a 50 amp maxi fuse then I would guess.  No fun to have a problem like that at night. I'll try Zanotti's for  some info and let you know.. I really would like to be able to be charging at idle or low rpms.

50 amp maxi fuse would be fine with either of the charging system upgrades.  The maxi-fuses are same physical size.  You should be able to pick one up for just a few bucks at any decent auto parts store.

Somewhere around here I've got the part numbers for the three parts from an 06 CVO Ultra.  Saw those parts manuals and notes within them earlier today.  Just a sec.......

Ok, here goes:

29943-06 3 phase rotor

29987-06C 3 phase stator

74622-06 3 phase chrome regulator

From my notes last time I bought them it was about $280.  Year and a half ago so no doubt more expensive now.  Zanotti was cheapest last time.

Ordered the new 45 amp rotor, service tech had questions about the additional hardware included, the new rotor did not have any instructions included.  Did anyone who installed the new rotor have any comments on the additional washers included?  Thanks

Seller replied quickly.
The spacer washes are only for aftermarket drives use your oem washer if you are all stock.
