Painted Chrome Parts
« on: April 14, 2006, 02:58:43 AM »

I have looked but can't seem to find the old thread where someone on
this site had painted the chrome windshied molding (Black).  I don't recall the process although it seems like it was very easy to do.

Anyone recall who did this? and how has it held up? Any peeling or issues?

Looking to do this to the wifes black street glide. bought her the windshield molding and she does not like the chrome there, and wants me to paint it black [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I blacked out the saddlebag crash bars on my Road King a couple years ago. I brushed the chrome with an abrasive pad and then had them powder-coated. What a great finish - almost indestructible. The black finish really looked cool too. I'd highly recommend powder-coating the parts. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Another vote for powder coating.  This stuff is much more resistant to chipping than regular paint, and that will be important on a windshield moulding.
