Engine Noise
« on: February 19, 2011, 04:50:56 PM »

I have a question and I don't know if there is really a answer. I ride a 2011 CVO Street Glide. This is my first SE110 motor. I run synthetic oil through out the entire setup. The engine sounds noisy to me. Kinda like a valve tap in a car motor. I have had it back to the dealer for service etc and asked about the noise. You know the answer, they are all like that especially with the synthetic oils.
I've had other Harleys , 2000 Low Rider, 2001 Road King, 2008 Ultra none of them sounded anything like this. Does the 110 SE Engine have more noise  is the dealer right  or don't they want to be bothered.?

I hope so because mine is the same way. Switched to Redline but it's like a Timex and keeps on ticking.

Working on a few I have found the auto adjuster isn`t so auto. If its not up a notch or two from where it wants to be the slider will bounce up and down a little on the ramp causing a lifter like clatter . I usually push the slide up two notches to eliminate the noise.

They are always the noiseist right before they start consuming oil at an alarming rate.

I just got my 110 motor and now have 900 miles on it.  Mine also make more noise than my other.  I guess that's the norm.   I took it to my local dealer...he said to turn up the stereo....lol.

Mines going to get alot noisier now that I am going to be using Syn 3 in all the holes. I cant use that inferior oil Redline or Amsoil in my motor anymore if I am going to be able to have my warranty up heald by the Moco. :-[

Don't forget that if they require using their own oil as opposed to a general oil specification they have to supply you the oil for the duration of the warranty.

You know they cant do that!
It is like telling you that you must purchase there product and that is against the law.
I saw GM try and do it to some corvette owners that chose not to use mobile 1.
The owners fought back and it was ruled that a manufacture can not insist you use there product for any reason unless they supply it to you.(Warranty or otherwise)
Dont believe the bull crap that rep is selling you.
Again I just get so upset with the way you are being treated.
Best of luck to you and BLUU.

Thanks Dave!! I am aware of what you are saying but to put together a huge legal battle against the MOCO is very expensive and I am trying to keep the faith with my local dealer and my pockets aren't that deep. I guess if it really get's out of hand and BLUU goes down hard again I will have to persue that alternative.  :2vrolijk_21:

Just spouting off a little.
I don't have deep pockets either so I do understand.
Its easy for me to talk cause its not my machine.
Its just a shame, ya know.

They can't revoke your warranty for the type of oil you use as long as it's the same weight/SAE grade as recommended by the manufacture in this case HD.

Craig, I know that but Harley is getting tired of installing motors in BLUU. That is why there is no SB on the newer 110 motors for cranks because Harley would go broke having to inspect and replace motors in all the CVO's. They are playing hardball on there warranty and at the same time loosing valuable customers. What a Consept!!
