Haze has holes in seat
« on: April 18, 2006, 11:46:27 AM »

On the passenger pillion, the "ostrich" skin has holes in it. It looks like holes are a little bigger than the size of the point of a pen. Maybe a thin spot in the skin? I will take it in when I get back from my trip to Arkansas. Anyone else had problems with thier seats?

I know,

Yup... the leather on my seat separated from the stitching on the riders portion, left side. Dealer replaced seat no hassle.

I've also noticed lately that the nose of the seat is not butting up against the chrome tank panel even when I'm not sitting on it. Comes up about 1 1/2 inches short so there's a gap and you can see the wire(s) and vent tube. Maybe this is because the seat is settling after 8000 miles with my fat a$$ on it? I still don't like it. Will try to take a pic and attach it to this thread. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Finally got ahold of someone who cares [smiley=pepper.gif] [smiley=pepper.gif]

I talket to Kent at Aspen Valley Harley, (Under new ownership, no longer Bruce Rossmeyer) and he said that they had received a info from HD about the problems with the seat and agreed to send it in for repalcement. Additionally, he let me bring in just the seat instead of having to trailer the bike down there.

Hopefully, this will finally be resolved. (Then I can sell my seat and buy a Corbin!! ;))

I'm interested in reading how you get this resolved.  This may be my biggest single QC complaint I have with my bike.  The seat tongue lifts up about 3/4" above the tank when I'm sitting on it and the conduits are very visible.  It looks better when I'm off the seat, but still not "right."  Definitely not a good design.  I found that I could adjust it with a slight bend in the metal tab that fits in the frame and get a slightly better fit, but I couldn't get it to fit the way it should.  When asked, my dealer said he couldn't do anything about it.  I thought of taking it to a custom seat fabricator to rebuild the whole danged thing, but I haven't gotten around to it.   Let us know if Moco will agree to fix it.  That would be ideal.

What is the cost on the Corbin? I am kinda a tall fella and the OEM Seat causes me a bit of.....well....male discomfort, seems like the seat slopes up toward the tank a little more than others I have sat on. Does Corbin make a seat for taller folk?

Thanks,
Rick

Rick, If you get the Corbin CVO Ultra Seat with heat, stitching of your choice (required with heat), and solid matching backrest (you can also choose the Oval), all with the Ostrich insert to match your tourpak backrest, expect to pay around $1200.  If you can wait until the 24th, just before Bike Week in Daytona, you can probably talk them into a 10% discount, as they routinely offer this during bike week.  Call Corbin's 1-800 number, and ask for John at extension 319.  He's in Florida, but all the phones are linked, both in California and Florida.

They can modify the seat during manufacturing to accomodate height, to a point.  The hole for the backrest is a standard placement, dictated by the seat pan, so there are limits as to how far back they can put you and still make the backrest functional.  The backrest is adjustable, but does have limits.  Moving you back an inch or so would probably not be a problem.  Some of your discomfort is probably coming from the seat foam colapsing on that stock seat and pressing upward in places you don't want it to be because the surrounding area is pressed down.  Kind of like sitting on a mountain bike seat... :o :o  The Corbin seat is very firm, and takes a couple of thousand miles to conform to your butt, but for me it made a huge difference when covering more than 150 miles or so in a day.  I've done 600 mile days with no discomfort, and there is NO WAY I could have done that on the stock seat.  The passenger on my bike loves it too.  The seat is a bit narrower by about 1", and just "fits" the bike better, IMO.

I sold my stock seat on e-bay, and was happy to see it go.

mtncop73 you may want to check out this company as well?
They make the seat based on your's and your passenger's riding position, size and weight .
I thinks someone on this site has had one made custom to fit a 2006 CUSE seat pattern too.

07 Seat looks ok but I have a poblem with the backrest leather piping between the ostrich & regular leather is wearing or comming unraveled can not tell exactly.  It is definatley comming apart, took to dealer & they are checking with HD for replacement/repair.  Anyone else had this problem?

Johnny,
Not yet, but I'm not liking the sounds of how this seat and backrest is holding up.  And this is the most expensive seat in the P&A catalog. Unreal.

Not Good.  Not Good at all.  My seat still looks and works great after over 7K miles, but I'm wondering how it is going to hold up with the rapidly approaching warm weather.  Its gonna get used..........ALOT.  Time to start thinking about a Corbin.
