ADDING IPOD TO 2011 CVO ULTRA CLASSIC AS ON ROAD & STREET GLIDES
« on: February 24, 2011, 11:50:59 PM »

I think that I've seen if mentioned that the Ultra can be set up with the iPod as on the Road Glide and Street Glide models so that the iPod is controled from the handlebar mounted controls.  Has anyone priced this out for parts and labor?  Anyone attempted an install?  Are plugs existing in the wiring harness or is the install more involved?

Dealer says it can and has been done but do not know pricing. But why add an IPOD when the ZUMO 660 is an MP3 player also? All that you need to do is make sure your scan disc is large enough to down load your play list. Just saying, not a big fan of complicating things. :nixweiss:

I guess that I need to look into the operation of the Zumo 660.  If you load music to the 660, can you then control playing that music from your hand controls on the bike?

No can do.  Have to make your selections (song, artist, album, etc.) from the Zumo itself.  All you can control from the bike is the volume, bass/treble.  But all you can do from the bike's hand controls for the iPod is to advance the current selection to the next or go back to the previous.  If you want to change selection/order of songs say by artist, by album, shuffle, etc., that must be done from the H-K radio buttons - no easy task and not too safe while riding, imo.  Plus on a sunny day I have a heck of a time reading the display on the H-K anyway.  So I just let the iPod or the Zumo play in whatever order I started out with.

Are plugs existing in the wiring harness or is the install more involved?

NOTE:  I'm not a tech or audio guy, but I'm familiar with the wiring and connectors involved.

The Ipod harness uses the 6B connector, but the 6B connector is very different on the FLHTCUSE6, so some realtively easy wiring changes will be necessary.  The 6B connector on the FLHTCUSE6 is in reply #4 this thread:

If you compare the 6B  connector on the FLHTCUSE6 with the 6B connector used on the IPOD in the installation instructions the differences between the two are obvious:

A competent tech should be able to make the needed wiring changes.
