Oil Change with a barb fitting and hose...
« on: March 02, 2011, 11:12:13 AM »

"back in the day" someone had posted a thread with pics of modifying a barbed hose fitting and using it to punch a hole in the front of the filter to drain it out...had to be 2 years ago or so

searched the archives - can't find it

can someone "doodify" this for me and point me to the thread?

I just use a long flat blade screwdriver.  One hole in the top and one in the bottom.  The new HD Oil Filter Drain Pan thingie works pretty good.

closest i could find

Thanks - I found both of those in my attempts.  I swear there was a thread, someone took a barbed fitting and ground it to a point...had a hose fitting on one end and once you drove the fitting in, slipped the hose and let it drain.

You're right, I remember the same post.  I'm sure it was in one of the many, many threads about dealing with the mess when trying to change a Harley filter (nice design work H-D).  Short of reading through every single thread, I've got no clue how to find it unless the person who originally posted it sees this thread.

what  it is ,  Its a brake bleeder with the threaded end filed/ground to a  flat sharp point, slide a washer on it , then its tapped with a hammer to break the metal skin,on the bottom of filter. then attach a hose to bleeder end then threaded into the filter with the hose attached  until seated , then oil drains out, then take off filter, supposedly its a  minimal  mess procedure

I was gonna score a fitting at Autozone tonight, but a bud called and needed to be picked up from the hospital in freaking D.C...5 hours later we're home.

I will try and snap some pics this weekend, gonna change out the filter Sat.
