It is never the first deer that you hit. In the Tahoe, 4 deer started to cross the road. I got the second one.......We really need to control the population. Hunting with a car is way too expensive.  Riding the bike after dark? Scary stuff

Several years ago during a HOG ride touring the covered bridges of eastern PA, we had 15-20 deer run right through the middle of the pack of 50 bikes or so!

None hit, and the front half a the group never saw them. I was near the rear and watched in dis-belief.

I have hit 3 over the years with vehicles, 1 in a Mercedes, did real well, 1 in a Suburban, creamed it, 1 in a Excursions, barely any damage.  Never want to hit one on a bike.

Neither do I. Came close several times and twice with my wife on the back. Not a good feeling.
We lost one of our CVO brothers last year to a deer in New York. And sadly most of us didn't find out until sometime after it happened.

My best friend riding buddy hit a deer on his bike about 7 or 8 years ago - right in front of me - about a half mile from his house.  It was in the dark...I first found his bike....I then found the dead deer...and then found my buddy - in the ditch unconsious with blood everywhere.  Turns out most of the blood belonged to the deer.  My friend ended up with a badly broken wrist and some road rash on his face.  All very scary.

I returned the favor to him a couple years later by hitting a deer while riding right in front of him on I-90 in Minnesota (with my cruise set at 80 mph at about 5:00 a.m., getting an early start to our day).  After thinking he had just witnessed my demise - he was equally afraid on my behalf!

We've got this nasty habit together...  I've driven him to the hospital after his breaking an arm while skiing - and he's driven me to the hospital after my destruction of a knee while skiing...

And he drove me to the hospital after my missing finger incident...  And I've driven him to hospital after that incident with the Bobcat...our cabin has this nasty incline down to the lake.  Everything stayed dry, though!

Then their was that time when his brother crashed his boat with us in it at around 90mph..  We all survived  :) (well...not the boat)  And then there was the time he crashed his ultralight airplane into the cornfield...but that was a mechanical failure.  We decided not to let his mother know about that one...

To be fair, we been friends for a lot of years, and we do a lot of stuff together.  Percentage wise - odds are strongly in our favor of not going to the hospital together...    :2vrolijk_21: :nixweiss: :huepfenlol2: :coolblue::)

Good Lord...I am pleased to read that the rider was not hurt...amazing!

I take it that they that not have time to blow that massive horn as an alert!

Call me a sissy but unless I absolutely have to, no riding after dark for me.   I use to fear a deer worse than anything until the driving + cell phone phenomena,  now I'm not sure which one is worse.  I'd hate to have quit riding in the daytime too. :-\

My personal record is 4 out of 6 deer.
I had 6 jump the center gaurdrail from lower part of I-88(westbound side)to the elevated part of I-88(eastbound side) just East of Oneonta,NY in a snow storm with my class 8 truck that I drive.
Thank goodness all it did was bend a bumper and knock off a plastic corner piece so I could continue my trip.Northern PA through the Endless Mountain Region and anywhere in NY East of I-81 the deer population is off the hook and needs better regulation.I try to do my best to help each deer season but with only 3 allowed it will take years to use up all this ammo around here,LOL....
