Master tuner or True Dyno, Any opinions ?
« on: March 08, 2011, 05:52:30 AM »

My dealer doesn't have a dyno. He is telling me that a Master Tuner with my Stage II set-up is the best way to go.

I've always had my bikes dyno tuned.

I spoke with another dealer (has dyno) and he is telling me to go with the H-D tuner(covered under H-D warranty) and have it dyno tuned.
Instead of the Master Tuner. He stated better tune and sometimes when you set up a bike with a Master Tuner you run the risk of a too leaned out tune.

I going with the dyno, but was wondering if anybody has been in the same spot and what you learned out of the process.

THANKS!, For  everyones help and Patiance helping me get my ride right. Great site, Great people.

Hate to burst any bubbles, but the SEPST (Harley tuner) isn't covered under your factory warranty, and in fact could be used as justification for voiding the factory warranty.  Just because some BS artist at a dealership says stuff like this doesn't make it true.

If you aren't into doing the self tune deal, then you have a choice of using one of the auto tuning solutions or having the bike dyno tuned.  Sounds like you're most comfortable with the dyno tune; I'd suggest you find a reputable tuner and let him advise you on what device he prefers.  Don't forget to get the interface device and a copy of the map when he's finished, btw.

Actually, none of that is true...  Amazing how little some dealers know about their products, services and warranty.

There are lots of tuning devices out there that will accomplish your needs of a good tune...  TTS Mastertune, SESPT, Power Commander and more.  Plus the Rev. Perf. EMS tuning device, that does not require a dyno.  More important that the brand of tuner is the competency of the guy running the dyno (unless you go with the EMS device).  Having a dyno and being competent in the use of a dyno are two different things.  Where are you located?  A member here can likely recommend the location of a good dyno guy in your area - and then let the dyno guy recommend the tuning device he is most comfortable with using...

I agree give Bean a call. great guy. uses a 4 gas analyser. worth the trip.
have heard of Drew also. dont know anything about him.could be very good as well.
it dosent matter which tuning device you use . (the two you mentioned) a good tuner can get the same results with either one.
actually you run the risk of being lean with either one, when only using a canned map. you will be rich in some areas as well. thats the reason you have always had better luck with your dynoed bikes.
canned maps are just that......a place to start.

Thanks Guys,
I met with Drew this morning at his shop. When my SESG comes in at the dealer he is going to ship it up to Drew. He told me he has had great numbers using the V&N Pro Pipe High Out put 2-1.he is going to break in the bike on the dyno.
He is then going to change out the cams and bore out the cylinders ten over. Port the heads and change out the AC.Install the V&h pipe. With all his experience he told me he would have no problem seeing 110hp.
I'm looking forward to working with Drew on my new ride. Thanks Again guys for telling me about him.
