BTW: I asked why CVO's don't seem to experience this issue and their answer is that the 110's are "run in" before installation.
Never ceases to amaze me what the rocket scientists at the local Harley store can come up with. Trust me, Harley doesn't do anything special to the 110's, they get slapped together by the same folks that slap together the TC96 and 103 versions, using different parts of course, and they don't get broken in before they get installed. And from what I've heard, CVO's have just as many if not more engine problems than the 96 and 103 versions. And the wives tale about synthetic not being good for break in is just that, a wives tale. The failure of the rings to seat properly in
some Harley engines has to do with the sorry state of the materials and machining at Harley, not the type of oil.
I agree that Formula Plus seems to be a good all purpose trans and primary lube, and I also agree it is better than running SYN3 in those holes. There are many other choices that are as good or better from sources other than Harley; search among the gazillion existing threads on oils and lubes if you're interested, no need to reinvent the wheel here.
