« on: March 09, 2011, 09:53:47 AM »

Is there a specific reason why the oil temp guage 75320-05A will not work on the 09 SE3 according to H/D ?   Thnks

It doesn't look the same.  Internal illumination is different.

It looks perfect in daylight but at night the gauge only has a halo illumination and the numbers on the gauge face don't individual illuminate like your factory gauges.  I still installed it knowing what to expect it's nice to have the oil temp at a glance.  I've had only one person point it out and when I told him It was a oil temp gauge he wanted the part number so he could change his out.

I have one on my 10..  Like everyone has stated, the face is slightly different than the rest of the gauges and it doesn't light up as well.  To me, the tradeoffs make it still better than the air temp gauge.

So if the gauge is a 75320-05A, any idea what the part number for the sending unit is?  Then just wire the sender and the gauge and bingo no more burnt fingers-cool..

I agree the gauge is differnet and you do not notice it until dark, but it is better to know your engine oil temp on the 110's since they have a tendenace to run hot.  ;)

So if the gauge is a 75320-05A, any idea what the part number for the sending unit is?

That part number is an accessory kit for gauge, sending unit, mount hardware and a small harness.  It's a complete kit.  Should you ever need to replace the sending unit separately it's listed in the kit part breakdown.  Part number 72357-04 for all the versions of the in dash oil temp gauge.

Didn't mean to suggest earlier that because the illumination was different the gauge wasn't a good idea.  To me it would be worth doing also.  It's information that is worth knowing on these air cooled engines and is certainly more valuable than is ambient air temp (that we'd need a guage for that while riding the bike is logic that always escaped me).

The light looks different.  In fact noticeably different.  I'd still stick the gauge in too.

That way HD makes an extra $140 per bike when the owners rip out the useless ambient air gauge and install the useful oil temp gauge.

If the $ealer does the install, tack on a couple hours of labor on top of that.

If the dealer installs, then they t into the oil line , behind the cooler  :nixweiss:

Instead of tapping into the oil pan, but that's a whole differant thread (sorry) justsayin

I hope not!  :o  Then they would not be following the installation instructions.  :'( I would also think that tapping into the oil line behind the cooler would cause inaccurate readings too.

I also forgot that they would have to add an oil change if they did it right.  Around here that adds about $150 to the price.

That's the way my first kit was, but the kits out the last year or so put the sensor in the pan-even came with the bushing.
