What's the difference 64985-07 and 64985-07A
« on: March 09, 2011, 03:57:21 PM »

I pull bushtec trailer on an average of 6000 miles a year, I'm currently running Fulsac baffles in my stock mufflers, bike runs great but with the trailer on the noise bounces back to my wife and is noticably louder. I bought some 4" turn down endcaps to try and help with the problem only to find out they dont fit with my mufflers, Harley says use 64985-07A, went to my HD dealer to order and they ahve 5 new sets of 64985-07 in stock for half the price. Can someone explain the difference. I know they will bolt up, wondering about performance and sound. Thanks in advance.

As best I can remember, the 64985-07 mufflers were the first 4" SE Street Legal mufflers for '07 models, and they were very quiet.  So quiet that sales of those mufflers weren't exactly setting the world on fire, if you know what I mean.  That's probably why you can find so many of them sitting in dealer inventory and available at bargain prices.  The 64985-07A came out about a year later, retuned for more sound. Still street legal, but throatier.

Are you looking at the 64985-07(A) strictly because it will work with the turn down endcaps, or because they are quieter than your modified stock mufflers?  If you just want something a little quieter and don't need the turn down endcaps, call Fullsac and see what they recommend; they may have a quieter baffle option for your stock mufflers.

I actually bought the turn down end caps first (#80615-07) the other problem my wife says she gets more exhaust fumes when pulling trailer so I thought the turn down end caps would help getting exhaust down into airflow under bike. I dont mind having a little quieter exhaust. the set is under $200.00, so If I dont like them or if it dosnt solve my problems it's not a big waste of money.

Jim, the only difference between the 07s and the 07a mufflers is that the inner outlet end of the baffle on the 07s has a shield over the exhaust perforations and the 07a mufflers have the shield removed which gives them a little more rumble, its a simple task to pull the baffle and remove the shield with a little cutter. Cycle Shack also make a replacement baffle that fits perfectly and is very reasonable. They are great mufflers  I have run them on all my Baggers at one time or another with good results.
