Other bikes for work?
« on: March 10, 2011, 09:31:08 AM »

I love riding my cvo but the idea of wearing it out just to ride back and forth to work doesn't make sence. I was thinking of buying a used bike (maybe a yamaha yzf) to keep the miles off my cvo. Any thought?

I had thoughts such as that but more so for those days when it was a chance of rain and I didn't want to ride the 10 miles to work and get the bike filthy. Now I have a take home car it's a moot point. Plus the fact (thought I'd say it before somebody else did) it has been "said on the internet" that I don't ride. ;) ::) ;D

Not sure I could ride the Yamaha but I agree, I will not commute on the SERGU, we moved into a new building across the street from where we used to be and lost the covered parking. I am not going to leave my bike outside all day every day, putting a cover on it every day will just thrash the paint over time. I am thinking about a Road King for commuting, a fairly ugly one with good mechanics.

You could pick up a nice used 'standard' like the Suzuki SV-650 for under 3 grand. It's a V-twin too. Thought about that many times.

I do not share the concern about wearing a bike out. If I want to ride to work I do but only on nice days. I am more concerned about drain on the battery for very short rides and helmet hair. I can always buy a new battery and use a brush. None of my bikes are collectors items or assets expected to make gains so crank-em up. The upside to riding work the nooner ride of 45 minutes hell I can eat another time.

After re-reading the initial post I might have wrote the wrong thing so here is the modification. If I had to buy another bike to ride for transportation only it would still be a HD. Maybe an older CVO. :2vrolijk_21:

I had the same thought regarding commuting in 2006.  Started looking for a used ElectraGlide for commuting, but just didn't like them.  Small motor, no chrome, etc.  Ended up buying the pumpkin instead and split the miles between the 2 bikes.

Just keep riding that fabulous bike... After all that's why you bought it, and no other will satisfy.

Who cares about the miles?

With such a small commute, by the time you put any decent amount of miles on it, you will be ready for a new CVO!

Then you will fall in love all over again!

Right there with you, 54 miles one way. My 2006 bike (48k) and car (150k) and the tires only last 10k on a bike, while I got 94k on my last set on the car. Much rather wear out the car.
I am a Harley or nothing rider (I guess I love pain), so a good low mile used bagger would be my choice. Prices are very good for buyers these days, so finding a good piece should be easy.

I soooo disagree. I bought my bike to ride, whether to the office, to the bakery to winn dixie , with my fellow L.A.M.A. brothers, don't matter. A bike is to ride not for show. That's just my 2 cents.

A really expensive luxury if it's sitting in the garage.  Maybe that's why my 2010 already has 25k on the meter. :bananarock:
