installed XM today where did you mount your module?
« on: March 19, 2011, 09:37:23 PM »

I used the wiring diagram that Carl supplied in earlier threads and it worked great. I spliced into the harness coming out of the Ipod module. I unpinned the wires from the connector and about 3 inches up I stripped the wire and soldered on the spliced wire. I slid heatshrink over the splice and then repined the wires. Came out very clean. I used double sided tape to mount the XM module on top of the Ipod module. I slid it as far back as possible and when I went to install the fairing I noticed the Antenna connector was hitting on the fairing. I cut the bolt bracket off of the XM module in order to move it back a little further. I still wasn't comfortable with the fit so I temporarily relocated the module under the radio. Anybody have a better solution?

Marvin, the tech who supplied the wiring diagram and instructions that I posted, mounted the XM module atop the iPod module:

I used two sided 3M tape to attach it to the radio. There is a bump on the corner of the radio that comes down and makes it not fit real well. I've thought of possibly fabricating a shelf ala J&M. With all the wire harnesses it is a tight fit and it's not going anywhere.  I don't see how Marvin mounted it on top of the Ipod module and didn't have it rubbing on the Fairing. The wiring was so easy and the harness came out perfect.

I did mine the same way.....but I haven't installed the fairing yet so I don't know if it is going to hit. I would think cutting off the the end of the bracket by the bolt hole would move it back enough to help.

Had mine installed at the dealer. They mounted it on top of the radio.

That's the Ipod Module. The XM has a pink connector for the antenna wire

I removed the bracket but the module rests against the brackets for the gauges. all I need is half an inch more room

No worries, I see you must have the 665 Garmin with XM. I should have taken pictures when I had the fairing off.

I tried to install my fairing last night and wouldn't you know....the XM module hits the inner fairing on the front corner. That J&M brackket looks real good right now.

Maybe if we get enough people to gang up we can convince them to sell the bracket spearately ... lol
Seriously though ... sure would be nice if they did.

Absolutely.....considering I pulled the module out to put the fairing back on. Now I've got all the wiring in place and the antenna and still no XM:(

Have you looked into HawgWired's brackets?
I don't have the XM module so I don't know the size, but it might lay on there with industrial velcro or body-tape (3M double-sided):

http://hawg-wired.com/product_info.php?cPath=2&products_id=66

They mount to the threaded hole in the middle of the speaker brace, the silver bracket that runs from the fairing bracket to the lower-outside speaker screw. Some folks have used them to mount passive cross-overs for component speaker installs so they might work for the XM module.

Just a thought.

I just called J&M and requested that they sell the module relocation bracket separately. I was given the owners e-mail address and told to contact him directly and request it. I'm sure the more e-mails that he gets, the better our chances are of getting it. So here it is: John@lazzeroni.com

Now everybody send him an e-mail and lets see if we can change his mind.
