I think the lesson for us all is very simple.  If our bike is still under warranty, in order to enforce the warranty coverage to the "T" with no issues is to perform the documented services at an authorized HD dealer.  This being said, when you spend $200-$500 for the inspecitons, I think it is both fair and wise to let the Service Advisor understand that you EXPECT every aspect of this inspection to be completed upfront.  I run a car dealership, and i am constantly over my Advisors and Technicians to do the job.  This has always been a pet peeve for me!  Letting them know up front that you will HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE is smart, and being a bit of a DICK about it isn't a bad idea either.

Sorry Crimson Slate, but I disagree.  If you want to be sure that your bike is properly serviced, do it yourself.  And if you don't know how or don't have the time or just don't want to, then find a top notch independent you can trust and have the same person do it every time.  Taking it to a typical Harley dealership where the service interval work is usually given to the rookies or the guy who was the wash boy last month but was recently promoted to "oil change technician" is a crap shoot at best.

Please explain how you intend to hold the Harley shop accountable if you have them do the service.  Last time I checked, they don't let you stand over them while they work on your bike (and I assume your place of business also doesn't let customers stand over the techs either).  And even if they did let you stand there and watch, how many Harley owners these days would know if what they were watching was right, wrong, or otherwise?

I'm glad to hear that you hold your folks accountable; it's a shame that so many do not.  But using this one isolated example to promote the idea of letting the dealer stick it to you for $400 oil changes to "protect your warranty" is a subject you don't want to get me started on.
