I can see how a loaded Dresser at something over 900 lbs could use a reverse now and then.... ???  Could order the parts even though it is illegal in Oz..

Is this an option on the CVO in the U.S. of A. ???   I thought I remembered seeing it as an optional HD thing you could order?

I was embarrassed a couple of times when someone offered to help push my last Ultra back..   :-[   Sometimes you get stupid or tired or don't notice the incline and it is hard to grunt it backwards at over 900 lbs.  I often thought it would be handy.  I know there are a few aftermarket kits, but they look a bit too complicated and awkward, is this an HD option for us?

Best regards from Oz, we Aussies are with you, stuff that camel and hang him in the clubhouse....   :soapbox:

Only stock Harley I've ever known to have reverse is the trike.

I don't know what is involved with fitting it on a Ultra.  :nixweiss:  Might work???

You're bringing up a topic that is one of my Hot Buttons.   First of all,  even on the damn Trike,  the reverse is an (option)...........God forbid it came as "standard equipment".

Which in turn,  brings me back to the Tour model Harleys.  My '09 SE Ultra is supposed to be around 880 plus pounds (before) I even get on it.   My old Road King was around 710 without me on it.

I'm of the opinion that once a scoot gets beyond the range of (650-700 pounds),  the damn thing ought to come "stock" with reverse.   Certainly,  the SE CVO high dollar ones ought to come standard with it.

I'm not wanting to spend a lot more money on my ride,  but if I had unlimited funds,  I would opt for one of those Baker Transmissions that had the reverse included.

I agree, many times I could have used reverse when pulling in down hill and going O Chit I screwed up, would also have saved the tempers of pedestrians when I rode down the sidewalk.  Too bad it takes Honda to include it on Goldwings and HD neglects it.

Yeah been there, had to get my wife to push me back a couple times when the incline was steeper than it looked. Sometimes my wife says "why are we riding around in the parking lot" I'm looking for a flat spot to park!

the best reverse - bike, sidecar, or trike - appears to be the baker reverse

Cowboy, Did I read that correctly? Is it illegal to have a reverse gear on a motorcycle in Oz?  ??? If so, do you have any idea why that is?

Dumb reason really..... Not enough Aussies...

In Australia, they have these rules called ADR Australian Design Rules, and to get something approved with testing for safety, can cost $10-$25,000....  Someone has to go through all the approvals and testing criteria, to show it is safe for the Public before it is "Complianced"  On a whole Vehicle it can cost up to $100,000.  That is why the HD Trike is not legal yet here in Oz... Same for the reverse gear, someone has to step up to the bat, figuring they can sell enough of them to recoup their compliancing costs...

That is just the long and short of it....  So reverse is not an HD option, nor the Trike, at least so far.  There are only 20 Mil people here in Oz, and the market is just not large enough to support some of these ventures like it would take to make back the $$$$.

As I understand it Chains, the reverse on a wing ding is hooked directly to the starter motor and not a part of the trans.

Well,  it seems I'm following a strange conversation.....Here I was thinking the (Land of Oz) was some fantasy place created by Walt Disney or another like him.   Now I'm getting the "vibe" that just maybe the reference was about Australia........Who fu**ing knew. :-\

Hello Spiderman,

There is a lot of custom stuff floating around here in Oz, (Australia for you Blokes like Moscooter).. heh he...   :2vrolijk_21:  Spiderman: The enforcement is a bit slack once you are Registered and on the road, who could keep track of it all.   It is just the Compliancing on the gear for ADR when it is imported (ADR Australian Design Rules) as it comes into the country..  Once it is here, who would know. :nixweiss:

Like for instance red lights on the side view Tour Pack are technically illegal here.  My 2011.5 Big Blue Ultra may actually come in with them disconnected or missing altogether.  But I can buy the parts from HD Australia and who would know?  There is some chance a Transport Inspector on the road would pull me up, never happened but possible, then I just disconnect them and somehow they get hooked up later...  :nixweiss: ;D

You would only get into deep doo doo if you did something like jacking up a suspension on a truck that caused an accident... Then definite deep doo doo.
But a few safety lights on a CVO Ultra, like what harm could that be.  Can't see anyone even pulling me up.  Same goes for a reverse, who would know??

Cowboy, in Oz...
