Dealer Labor charge for installing new tires
« on: March 25, 2011, 11:27:11 PM »

I was checking around to see how much I would save by going south of the border- Zannottis offers a great price as always, but quoted $70 to install (for each tire- 140 big ones).

Thought that sounded like a lot, so checked with an HD dealer in NY state, and they charge $60 a piece- not much less, and total cost would be more than Zanottis.

What do your dealers charge?

I had occasion to check this past week.  Was quoted $100 to mount and balance a pair of new tires on to new wheels.  The service writer didn't answer if it would be more if there were old tires to dismount.  An indie shop charged almost as much.

My dealership only charges a balance fee, if you purchase the tire from them mounting is free.

Buy the tires from them on a discount day and it feels like you made out  :2vrolijk_21:

THIS is why it is impossible for me to want to do business with local CDN HD dealers- called for a quote on tires :

$316.95 rear
$235.95 front
2.5 hrs labor x $75 hr
13% tax

= $835.00 not including tire weights and disposal  :nixweiss:

Hmm, let's see, or I can ride 2 hrs south into NY state, and spend $558 out the door. Or take a nice 6 hr ride, and go to Zanottis in PA, and spend $480 out the door.

Not a real tough decision unfortunately.

All the motorcycle shops and dealers in my area were $70 (per) last time I bought tires online. Had a local motorcycle shop change them out and I had to listen to the guy say "another set of internet tires". So last year I went to the local Honda dealer after finding out they kept in stock the Elite III's I'm running on my bike. Can't recall the price but remember it was much less than purchasing online and paying the local mounting/ballancing fee's....just sayin

I guess I have it pretty good! My Indy guy prices are, Tire change including mount@balance Front $45.00, Rear $50.00. He only charges $5.00 more front or rear if I buy the tires from the internet. I don't know what the local HD charges but I don't want those morons touching my bike anyway!

Why don't you go ahead and buy that tire changing machine Don.  You can have CVOers from all over come visit for tire changes.  Heck we will most certainly bring beer.  What are you waiting for? :nixweiss:

Crap.  I was supposed to call a member offering a used one Jerry.  Then got busy and out of town for a day and a half and forgot.  Just made a note and stuck it on the monitor.  Will do that tomorrow when he's open.  Maybe we'll have the "Central US Twolane CVO (non-exclusive) Tire Changing Shop for Beer?"

Glad I could help with your CRS Don - or maybe you have the more advanced CRAFT.  In any case this sounds good to me.  :2vrolijk_21:

I'm sure I was diagnosed with one or the other Jerry.  But I'll be damned if I can remember which one it was...

My dealer installs for free, providing you buy the tires from them. Another reason I keep doing business with them.

The dealer that I bought my bike from is running a special free mounting and balancing with purchase of a tire. Today they told me its a $75 value.

Dang-it.  I can never find a 'deal' on tires/mounting/etc.   (I did just get a FREE exchange battery from US Cellular for my blackberry, though)  Now, that's a great program...just walk in and they swap you out for a fresh battery anytime. :)  spyder

If they're selling you a $124.99 tire for $199.99 it's a $0.00 dollar value.

Just sayin is all
