Slip Ons and no other Mods
« on: April 24, 2006, 08:47:06 PM »

I imagine I'll get several different answers but I'm going to ask anyway.  Can I install a set of Rinehart slip ons, leave the air filter stock and not have to do anything further to the ECM?  I ran slip ons on my '04 Road King Classic for several months before I did the air kit and re-map and didn't have any problems other than an occasional decel pop.  Anyone out there running slip ons with out any other mods?

Yep, I'm running V&H Ovals with no other mods. No problems doesn't even pop on decel.

06ULTRASE,

Do you check your plugs periodically to make sure it's not running too lean?  How many miles do you have on the Ovals?
How do you like the Ovals on your SE?  I've pretty much narrowed it down to either the V&H Ovals or the Rinehart Slip Ons.  Leaning toward the Rineharts.  A buddy just put some on his Ultra and they sound pretty good.  Not too loud.
Eventually I will do the air kit and SERT but I'd like to change out the pipes first.  The dealer did not recommend doing it but then they want to sell the air kit, SERT and dyno time.
Thanks for the info.

The Ovals have been on it since shortly after the 1000 mile service. I have been checking the plugs and have seen no sign of running lean. Other than local riding I've done 2 1100 mile round trips to Daytona no problems. I plan to put the true duals and another air filter in the near future, I think I'm going with the V&H fuel management sytem instead of the SERT or PC. Oh yea I've got a just shy of 8000 on it now.

I have to assume you are quite pleased with the Ovals??

Haven't had a chance to compare them to the new Rinehart slip ons, have you?

I'm really happy with them. I really like the way they sound. Comparing to the Reinhardts I've heard the V&H's aren't as loud.
