New Helmet...HJC AC-12 Yikes.  Comes in Metalic Red, Blue, or Gray/Silver.  Extremely well vented...face shield SEALS, but vented by chin guard...easy to change shields...and, it's one of the lighter full face lids.

After spending beaucoup hours in the rain on a recent trip and snapping the full face flip up shield on my 3/4 Arai for those rainy stretches I finally broke down and got a full lid.  Figured I'd avoid the noise from the shield held on by it's three snaps and just use the big lid for the longer trips.  Just today not a Nolan N102.  Want to play with the com gear accy components for it next.

That helmet looks pretty cool.  I don't generally like the full face option but I'd take a closer look at that one.  Did you see it at any of our friendly stealers here in Alabama?

Pap,  Actually saw it at the local Ducati/BMW/Triumph dealer,but not in my size...so, ordered on line.  It is a really nice helmet, very comfortable, and well vented.  Highly recommended!!

All right, we all know that it is not "IF" we go down, it is just a matter of "WHEN".  Well after 35+ years of riding (all over N. America-- as well as Western Europe) my time came.  It has been 90+ days since they stuck 2 rods and 9 screws into my spine in order to get myself back together.

Enough of that though, all I want is to ride again!!  In keeping in that mode, I suppose I should get serious about a good helmet (I was lucky once, I do not expect such luck to always be with me).  

Has anyone had any experience with the Nolan X 1002 (its a modular full face job).  Is there a whole lot of differecne between the Nolan X1002 and the Nolan N 102?  Bottom line, I am looking for a good quality Modular type helmet. Heck, I'll pay the bucks for a Shoei, if they are as good as their price refers to.  Any suggestions, thoughts, etc. would be greatly appreciated, as mother nature takes her time in healy me.  Thank much.

I've been riding with the N102 for about six weeks now.  One medium sized trip (back and forth to Cripple Creek, about 750 miles each way) and a few shorter rides.

It's really quite inside when the face shield is fully closed.  Even opening it a notch or two for more ventilation is completely ok.  I didn't like the sunglasses type shield on top of the standard screen.  It's bottom line was often in my line of sight.  No big deal as it's a ten second removal and the helmets include a pair of color matched covers to fill the area displaced by its removal.

The helmet goes on and off easy enough.  The vents work well.  I've had it on in 105 degree days and with the face shield cracked a notch it's still ok.  Vision out of it is surprisingly good.  Shield is cut back to the sides far enough that peripheral vision is in fact unimpeded.  The padding inside the helmet seems adequately comfortable too.  

It's been a transition for me as this is my first experience with a full faced lid.  All tolled though I can't complain about the lid's comfort or performance.  Mine is actually the NCOM variant with the Bluetooth and other com capability built in to.  All that works quite surprisingly well too.  People you're on the phone with have no clue where you are or what you're actually doing.  Taking and recieving calls is simple and works mostly without hassle.  We can't get this version of the lid in the states yet though.  A buddy in London got this one for me and shipped it over.  With the exception of the com gear the N102 and the N102 NCOM lids are the same though.  So the rest of the description should still hold true.

Thanks for your input, on the Nolan helmets.  I've ordered the N-100.

Although I have not particapated much on this site, know that I really appreciate the time, effort and knowledge shared by fellow riders, such as yourselves.  

I'm not sure what condition my back will be in for this years Maggie Valley run.  Sure wish I could be there, though... it's one of my favorite riding areas.

I have never been much into anything but a 1/2 or 3/4(4 bad weather) type of helmet.  When I raced stock cars I work a full face with nomex lining and a nomex neck sock attached.  That was enough full face to last me a lifetime.

However, last fall when the weather started getting bad I looked at the HD Stealth, Flip Face made by KBC (their FFR).  Looked like a good helmet, liked the fact I could filp it open & ride with it open (supposedly).  So I bought one.  Well, the winter spoiled me.  I love the helmet, can you ride with the filp face open, oh yeah, 80mph with it open in the wind on my Sportster and no resistance.

I have the HD headset mounted in it & it works well open or closed.

Behind the 9 1/2"winscreen on the SE it is smooth & quiet.  I'm 6'4" so I had to give up the dark smoke    6 1/2" windscreen that came on the SE.  The wind buffeting was really bad with my 1/2 helmet & there was a lot of wind noise with the full face.

In the rain you get a small amount of leakage because of the flip face but nothing you can't live with if you are use to a 1/2 helmet in the rain.

For $289 you can't go wrong with this one if you want a Flip face, or go direct to KBC  for the FFR if you want a different color.

Don't buy a dark face shield from HD however, what HD call the Dark Smoke for the helmet is really blue and is a terrible color.  You need to go to a KBC supplier & get the real dark smoke or one of the many others that are available.

Never really liked (or feel) of a full face. Too constricting and when I see someone with a full face on a Harley I always think of a Winger that just bought a Harley. ( :-/ )
 I always travel with 2 helmets. A half shell and a 3/4 with a snap on faceshield for the rain and the high way. My complaint is the rain always seems to get up under the shield and all over my glasses. ( I hate when that happens) I picked up a Nolan N-41 which has a built in shield and visor. The shield extends a little lower then a snap on. Seems to protect your neck and keeps the rain out better. I love the built in visor and you don't look like a dorky winger on a Harley.
