... And they double as my chaps in cooler weather when need be so give me one less bulky thing to carry.  On top of that they add a boundary layer over the chest that chaps don't help with in cool weather.

I probably use at least my rain jacket for warmth more than for rain!  My leather jacket's winter liner works really well, but is really bulky.  A light rain jacket over the leather instead is just as warm and adds no bulk.  Great for early morning departures.  After an hour or so, when the day starts to warm, the rain jacket comes off and I'm good to go for the rest of the day.  I never thought about buying bibs, though, maybe I'll try them.

Last trip to the mountains looks like rain - threatening clouds, etc.  We think we can ride around it.  Wrong.  Put suits on at side of building as it begins to rain - reasonably dry, did not get wet inside the suits, so we proceed.  Rains for MAYBE 5 minutes - not much - light shower.  We keep the suits on and ride through miles and miles of road where it had rained a few minutes earlier, but no more rain.  My wife has the best take on it - if you do not put on the rain suit, it will rain, & rain, & rain.  If you do, many times it will not. Weird how that has happened so many times.

I carry rain gear 365 days a year  :2vrolijk_21:

However, I also carry a couple of heavy gauged Glad Trash Bags for the people who ride with me and don't have rain gear
Just slice the seem of the trash bag for head and two arms and wallah a Heavy Duty Poncho
I swear the number of riders that don't come prepared seems to grow every year, some people would call them the "Wannabee" riders

Just a tip that I  use and doesn't take up much room in the saddle bags

Not a bad idea.  When I'd really like 'em would be when the road is wet but it's not raining.  Not quite worth putting on rain pants, but wrapping some plastic around your lower legs would keep your jeans from getting soaked.  Need some tape too, though.

One thing I hate is getting my gloves soaked.  What do you all use for gloves in the rain?

I use a pair of GoreTex shells I have for snow skiing.  They are made to wear gloves under them, or they can be worn alone though they don't fit tightly on the fingers.  They do have a grippy palm and finger surface though, and a long gauntlet with a drawstring to keep the snow or water out.  A lot of the skiing stuff makes good riding gear, and if you shop on the net, you can find closeouts this time of year.  In winter, I have the insulated GoreTex version to wear.  Advantages to ski gloves is that they almost always have precurved fingers (to grip ski poles), a grippy palm/finger surface, and will be both breatheable and waterproof.  Good brands are Outdoor Research, Spyder, Manzilla, Mountain Hardware...none of it is real cheap, but will last you for the rest of your life, and they are packable.

I have a pair of CORTECH GXwp. They're waterproof. They have a leather palm and a mesh back so they breath. They're suppose to be one of the only waterproof gloves with a mesh back. I didn't get them at this link, I just wanted to show what they are. This is about the price I paid. You can get them probably at any store that carries Tourmaster rain gear.
