That's a good plan jfscheck if you can do it. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
My problem with the light is it's dim and hard to see in bright sunlight then it's hidden under the speedo needle when you are traveling around 60mph. Once or twice I have looked down to see it on and didn't see when it first came on and thought "how long has that been on?"  I think the gauge itself on my bike is close to accurate but my MPG does vary depending on speed and how much stop and go driving. I tend to use the odometer for mileage estimate per tankful. Never had a gauge or light for 9 years on my Fatboy and did ok with that method.

Had the same problem today..."how long has THat BEEN on"...I stopped shortly afte rI noticed and put in 4.5 gallons...Sounds like its working but the needle end thing is stupid.  I guess we go 40 or 80..... [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=jalapeno.gif]

Wow, am I really stepping up in the world...will be my 1st bike (5 HDs/1 Indian) with a fuel gauge, always just figured at about 150 miles the bike and I need some fuel, a chance to stop and be seen, and usually only one of us must dump some fluids...though both of us have done it at times.  When the bike dumps, it doesn't provide me with the same sense of relief for some reason.
A light too!  I have a fuel light, but I have to point it down into the tank, this one sounds better.
Air Temp Gauge also!   It'll be nice to calibrate my face...determine what temp I start sweating, how cold it has to be before my nose runs, when it starts to freeze and at what temp it finally goes numb.  Won't be able to go by the frozen fingers anymore with the heated grips.
Next your going to tell me I have surround sound.
Be nice if they'd put a small fan in that front part of the seat that curves up the center of the tank. -Baron Stump

In theory, the low fuel light should come on with 0.9 gallons remaining, which would be approximately 3/16 on the gauge (5.4 gallons to fill from dead empty to little holes in filler neck).

That is what my bike seems to do.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Light comes on, a tad below 1/4 tank on gauge. I stop and fill up, 4.5 gals, to little holes in filler neck.
So, ... 4.5 gals + 0.9 gals = 5.4 gallons.

I just watch the odometer or gas up when gauge drops to 1/4 tank,  usually can't see the light on either.

Light came on, 9 miles to station, 4.5 gallons.  I'll watch a few tanks and the mileage so I know it stays close to this.  Looks like I'm right on with that fillup though. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I agree with counting on the trip meter more than the fuel gauge.  The low fuel indicator is just a good reminder to be looking for a gas station.
