Paint question
« on: April 08, 2011, 01:47:54 AM »

Want my FXR3 rear fender re-painted..... Being that it's a CVO and may be a bitch to match correctly, does Harley do painting if I take it in and have them send in my fender? I don't have a painter I can trust to match the candy blue color nearby.

JD. I don't know how good your local dealer is ,but mine can't even be trusted get a bolt order right. So ,I won't bother them anymore!I have had good luck calling HD's customer service number.Although they can't perform miracles, they will work to get a CORRECT answer to your question. They seem genuinely concerned about past customer's bikes.Very refreshing considering many companies don't even want to know you if you inquire about an"obsolete" item. This has got to be your best bet.Call early in the day ,be prepared for a bit of a wait, put a pot of coffee on or something. Good Luck,Ed

Never heard of MoCo taking old parts in to repaint them... if they are still painting tins you are requesting they will sell you new painted parts.

I guess it never hurts to ask :) my local dealer is good people. I just thought with the way Harley is with their paint codes for CVO bikes, maybe they did a repaint program for us owners...... I'll give em a call on Monday and roll the dice. I'm willing to pay the price if they can do it. I demand perfection :)

There are a few painters reference on this site that were used to match CVO paint for parts not offered by HD, such as hard bags for the SERK3,4, lowers and tour paks for others.  Paint by Gene is one used a lot with great results.  Web site is www.bigfatys.com

Actually, there is one program where you can go either way, send your tins or buy new ones.  Its the California Kid flame job available for almost all models and it is (was ) around for several years.
