Rev Perf EMS, Fullsac pipes, Woods 555- great combo
« on: April 11, 2011, 12:40:53 PM »

I have seen many questions and comments on the Rev Perf EMS and comparisons.   Just installed a Woods 555, Fullsac exhausts with X pipe and Rev Perf EMS.  Great combination.  Throttle response is great, torque and performance i s best the bike has ever been.  Duly impressed to say the least.  My only disappointment is the hit on gas mileage with this combo, but can't beat the performance improvement.  One other note - on col starts it takes a few minutes for the RPM to get normalized, stays at about 15oo RPM until bike is good and warm.  This is different from stock where it actually drops more quickly.  Overall, can't thank Metal Dragon enough for suggesting this combo works like a charm!!!

Wondered if anyone else has seem similar results and over how many miles?  I have put about 600 miles on since the mods.

I have experienced similar performance results but didn't have a drop off in fuel mileage.

Check for an intake leak
Find this suggestion a bit tough to swallow as you would think exhaust leaks normally aspire to other symptoms like backfire, poor performance, lags in throttle response the list goes on.  no such symptoms exist.  Had intake leaks on other bikes in the past always had clear symptoms accompany that problem.  Any reason you think an intake leak could cause MPG erosion with no other symptoms?  Bike runs better than ever.

Vacuum leak (at the intake) could definitely cause the problem with idle speed.  The EMS system continually trying to chase an AFR that was a moving target because of an intake leak could account for fuel mileage issues also.

No way to know if that's actually your problem.  But it was the first thing I thought of when reading your initial report also.  The bike might feel like it's running quite well with a small vacuum leak.  Especially with the EMS system working it's little electronic ass off to compensate for it in real time all the time.

Thanks Twolane :2vrolijk_21:

Doesn't take much of a intake leak to cause the symptoms you described

So if there's a leak, crack or other problem, it says alot for the REV Perf unit in that the bike is still running well. Maybe that unit has some serious abilities  :nixweiss:

Call brian and ask what your warmup idle settings are. Maybe it is just where he set it.
you have any dyno sheets that show the diff in wot?
Fuel mileage may just be that your not running near as lean now.
or your right wrist is suddenly out of control.

Hey John....have you talked with Jim about it?

Just a thought.....factory stock even the 103" runs lean so once you get a tuner on it and get it tuned, yes, it's going to use more fuel.

What's the difference in mpg from what it was stock?

Sounds like you're pretty happy with the performance now. :2vrolijk_21:

Performance is outstanding.  Agree with comments about running lean stock and figured to take a hit actually (even tough Rev Perf says no), but the hit was about 7 MPG which I thought might be a bit much.  That said, it might be perfectly normal, let's remember this wasn't just pipes or a big sucker, it was a number of performance enhancements thrown on at once so it's possible that what I am getting is a by-product of the great performance. :) I am stopping by Jim's later today anyway and will have a quick look just to make sure it's noting obvious, will let you know then.  As Kim said Sunday she may need a neck brace from the whiplash. :)
