engine, trans, & primary lubricants
« on: April 13, 2011, 12:14:38 AM »

i'd like to hear from those who might be running something other than syn3.  i have been told that there are better things to run in the trans than syn3.  other folks have said that syn3 is only good for the engine itself and to keep it out of the primary.  its time for my 1000 mile service and i was interested to hear the opinions of CVO owners before i just go with syn3.  thanks!

Yep  Me Too
I was wondering if anybody has luck with Redline 20W60  and the trans fluid w/shockproof for this hot Florida/summertime riding to possibly quiet down this sewing machine!
I did a search but couldn't find anything substantial.

I have used SYN3, H-D Oil and Mobil1 and now REDLINE, I will not use anything else but REDLINE, When i switched it went from using 1/2 qt every 3-4,000 miles to maybe a pint, The Transmission oil, it still has the clunk but i think it shifts smoother.

I live in central Florida and use Syn3 for all the bike needs. Runs cooler, I think.

SYN-3 in the motor and HD's Formula Plus in the tranny and in the Primary!!

The other alternative---for cost alone would be Mobile 1 Syn $8 qt verses SYN-3 at $11.45 qy at the dealer.

BTW: It IS worth the little bit extra to get the tranny and primary changed at 1k. It isn't called for but you will experience much smoother shifting and clutch operation. neutral will be easier to find too!!

Used amsoil for years and was very happy, then switched over to Redline.....trans shifts smoother and the 1st gear whine got much better.

I've always ran:

Mobil1 20W50 V-Twin in the motor
Mobil1 10W40 4T in the Primary
Mobil1 75W90 Gear Lube in the tranny.

Simple Question.
Has anyone had success quieting the rattle in the trans or engine with lubricants? This is my first 110 and it is a noisy sucker!

It got slightly better after I switched to Redline!
