It's 07' rumor time ya'll...
« on: May 01, 2006, 06:10:53 PM »

I was at my favorite HD dealer a couple weekends ago and was talking to their sales manager about 07' models. Well, it turned out that he was ready to gossip that day and said a few interesting things for the 07' line-up. To start with he said that he's heard HD will be supplying a "reverse" in their touring line for 07.' I may be pussin' out a little but, damn it, I think I could grow to like one of those. He also said something about an "engine option" that's going to be available for touring line...he may have included the softails but I can't remember now. Also he said he heard the touring line will all be getting six-speeds. On the "engine option," he mentioned a Jim's 113's as such an option and also that there may be a CVO FLHXI with a Jim's 113. He didn't have much else to say CVO rumors other than a possible SESG. I can't imagine, though, how a SESG could be distinguished from the SEEG...like, been there...done that wouldn't it seem? Since I'm waiting for the 07' line-up for my next order, anyway, I'm ready for the new rumor season to get cranked up! So...got rumors?

Ride on,

A CVO Street Glide. Put me down for one. I stripped my SEEG down to Street Glide fighter weight the night I got it home back in Sept of 2004. No lowers, no tour pack, no Freddy Crouger looking rear grab bar. The clean look...

CVO touring bike for 07 should be the second year of the Ultra.  That's what they've (almost) always done.  It's almost certainly what they'll do again.  One thing for certain about rumors......

(wait, I'll think of one)

CVO Street Glide - Had one - it was a 2004 CVO Electra Glide in "Black and Orange" - just compare the two...  [smiley=pumpkin.gif]

Six-speed for the touring bikes - would be small cost to the motor co. so why not as that rumor has been running for two years now...  ::)

Motor option for the Touring bikes?  As long as it meets emissions - sure...  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Second year for the CVO Ultra Classic - That's a no brainer but perhaps with a Six Speed...  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

Were this someone other than Harley-Davidson we're talking about, I'd be inclined to look for something a little more radical, BUT being this IS the MoCo. My guess is we'll see the SEUC again and more than likely with a 6-speed standard. I expect that the CVO bagger might recieve the Street Glide's rear fender treatment vice the filler strips we've gotten for the past 6 years. MAYBE a larger rear tire. Seems like the feedback on the leather tour-pak is 50/50 like/dislike, so that could go either way. I'm thinking that the paint work will be a huge improvement over this year's models, but in order to accomplish that I expect it will be rather on the tame side. I would expect the engine option in the touring line-up to be a 103. All this is just a guess, and based on what I would do coupled with watching how slowly the MoCo moves over the past 35 years. If it were me, I would go at the imports head to head with a complete line-up of available options you can order on the bike as with Honda's VTX and Yamaha's Star series. However, the bean counters at H-D would see that as a profit loss since they have trained us to buy the bikes stock, spend another 5-10k on accessories and give away our stock parts. So that thought is just wishful thinking on my part. However, while I do think there's a chance they will offer an engine option I don't believe it would be a 113. Too many issues with that configuration and I honestly believe the next factory built motor to come down the line will be a water cooled something. The 103 has only been on the market for 3 years and only available on CVO models and as an aftersales item. Seems like they haven't even recouped their R&D costs on it yet. Also, no one has seen any filings with the EPA for certification on a production 113. There's enough people on this site that scour the net looking for any little hint about what the MoCO is doing that someone would have posted this as we've seen with the posts about the large displacement V-Rod config motor. So, IMO 2007 is not going to produce anything worth selling your first born for. I honestly like my salesman at San Diego H-D. He and his wife come over to my house for pool parties and he's a good guy, but at the end of the day he's a salesman. He's full of chit. That's why he's a salesman. I discount anything that comes out of his mouth by 1/2, divide that by 3 and ignore 90% of what's left. Which if you do the math, after all of the BS would leave me with the one true fact that yes there will be a 2007 model. I think I'd be willing to bet on that. Everything else is just bench racing. But hey, that's one of the things I love about this site is seeing what everyone daydreams about.

So I guess I can stop holding my breath for a FXR frame with a SE Vrod motor, huh?

Well said SPIDERMAN. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
I agree with you position. I think HD is biding it's time until they can make a Vrod type motor for touring bikes so they can keep some performance ,yet meet EPA standards.
Also I think Harley and the owners like us are like the old story about cooking a frog.
If you try to drop a frog into a pan of hot water it will try to jump out. If you set it in room temp water then slowly turn up the heat it will not move and will get cooked.I guess it thinks it's in a hot tub. ;D
Harley is like that I think, make small moves and it keeps most customers since it has massive P.R. and can sell us on the benifits.Think of the past, the new features such as electric start, hydrolic suspensions, changes from pan to shovel, evo to twin cam etc.
I would love to see a custom order program where you would "Build your own bike" from the factory and make it exactly yours and not need to add anything unless a new product came out after the fact! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
Again I agree that the MOCO would balk at that one. Look at the size of the motorcycle sales catalogue vs. the parts and accessories catalogue. You can kinda see where the money is as well as what would happen to many of the service departments if they weren't busy bolting on the new parts? Gee maybe then there wouldn't be such a backlog in getting a regular service appointment or bikes repaired. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

HD will be supplying a "reverse" in their touring line for 07.'

Once heard a big man from the MoFoMoCo stand on a stage and tell the assembled HOG members that "HD will NEVER fit a reverse gear" - so I guess that part could be true!  ;)

Never had interest in one myself, but as I get older (and lazier) I can see how one could help extend my riding years into the future.  Hell, if it eventually has to have a radiator, it may as well have reverse I guess.

IMHO if he's a good salesman the lawyer wouldn't have a better car...house or a bigger boat.  But what would I know, I never got the degree. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Good discussion from everybody. I even laughed a few times reading through the strings. Here's my two cents worth.
First off, reverse. Yeah, I can see the MoCo offering it as an after sale install item from the parts department. Heck, we're all getting older and who wouldn't like a little help sliding into a tight spot on Main Street in Sturgis. They'll never make it standard though because then they have to give it away. Keep it in parts and the can charge big $$$ for it.
Second, engine options. Yeah, I can see that but it'll be the 103 - tried, proven and EPA approved. No way would the MoCo ever put a Jim's 113 in a factory Harley. Not only would it violate all EPA rules and regs, it would be a marketing suicide - going outside the company for power - no way.
Now let’s talk CVO models. Remember they build three. The V-Rod and FatBoy are completing round two of an every two rotation. The Ultra has another year left so we’ll add the 6-speed and some very nice paint. Done! Now just wait for the H2O model in ’08. So what'll replace the V-Rod and the FatBoy? I'm betting on the Street Bob and the Softtail Custom. Both are enjoying good popularity right now and are great platforms for aftermarket custom development. Any bets?

I make a habit of never saying never, but truthfully I can't see myself on a water cooled Harley dresser with reverse! Aw hell, who am I kidding? They're probably already designing my HD factory custom trike even as you read this!  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] ;)
