Man what a joke!! In all my years of riding I have NEVER had my bike serviced at the dealer. When I took delivery of the bike they hadn't detailed it and it looked like crap, clean but a lot of light serface scratches. There were a couple other issues, but the long and short of it was, "bring it back, we will detail it and do the 1K service no charge". Dealer is around 65 miles away, so I drop it off on Friday and Picked it up today (Sunday). The wife and I needed to go out of town for the weekend and the dealer was in the general direction so we dropped it off on the way out and picked it up on the way back. I got there today to pick it up and it looked pretty good, not what I was hoping for, but not bad either. Rode it home, no problems, the last turn before my house I took pretty hard and the bike felt funny, like a low tire or something.  I got home and parked it, didn't really pay attention to the odd feeling in the last turn. I go back out to the garage and the wife says, what's under your bike? WTF, it's oil, I have oil all over the place. I call the dealer and get the service manager (on a sunday), he asked, where does it look like it's coming from? I say, well there is oil on the filter, so I am guessing there. He says, it may be excess oil from the oil change, asks if I will start it and do I see oil coming from anywhere. I say I don't think it is excess oil, cause currently there is 7 drops of oil from different spots under my bike (sprayed all over for 65 miles). His reaction was WHAT! don't bother starting it, we are coming to get it, we will send a driver tonight for it!! So I guess I give them props for that, but WTF, the first oil change I have done EVER by somebody else and this is what I get?? The filter seemed tight, but I only tried with my fingers. The oil was still full, wondering if it is over full?? Not sure where to oil is coming from? Should I be expecting / asking for something? It isn't really my style to say I want something for free, but I am kind of pi$$ed off right now!! So my bike is going on 3 weeks old and it's off to the dealer for the second time because of them!!

why do we have to hear this story repeated over and over? if a service dept. can't pull off a simple oil change withouy botching it, how can a guy trust their work after they reinstall a wheel or do a brake job or something that could get you killed.
i realize that most service techs are honest and hard working but if ya throw a couple bad apples in the barrel, well you know the rest of that story.
i do all my own service work and if for some reason i have to have a service dept. do something i'm not set up to handle, i'm all over that bike with a fine toothed comb when i pick it up. there's just too many horror stories out there to trust anyone.

Curious to learn what the cause is.

May be related to the oil change....then again, may not be related to anything they did.  Really curious but something like this I'd stay in neutral until you get the facts.

Yeah, will wait and see. Service mgr was real good, didn't try and deny, or point fingers, when he heard there was that much oil he wanted to come get it. This is my first NEW Harley, love the bike, to be honest not impressed with the dealer at this point.

I always wonder, if because the oil change is so simple, do they put the biggest flunky on that job?

JCZ is correct and probably giving the best advice.  Wait for the facts...

Next, you need to ask around to see who is the best tech at your dealer and for future work insist that he is the only one who touches your bike.

You say dealer is 65 miles away, and assuming from San Jose? Which direction? North west, North east, or South?  Or better yet - who is the dealer ???

ON THAT LAST TURN, THE FUNNY FEELING YOU FELT WAS OIL ON THE REAR TIRE?
I do all my own service, but the last time I had my bike in for the dyno tune, they were taking the bike off the dyno & backed it right into another bikes tail pipes & scratched the he** out of one of my saddle bags. yes they ordered me a new one right away.

I intentionally left out the dealers name, at this point they are trying to make it right. Don't want to start bashing, as long as they take care of it that is....

Thats the best course of action.  You called, they reacted, they will tell you what the problem is... go from there.  Hope its nothing serious

Since you say 65 miles away and I am assuming south, I can figure out the dealer.  If so, had a friend lose some teeth on his 2011 RoadGlide Ultra (~1200 miles on bike) and he brought it to that dealership for warranty replacement.  They had the bike all week.  He went there Friday afternoon to pick it up and they were just finishing it up.  Came back from the test ride and the bike was puking oil from the primary.  He had to go back on Saturday to pick it up since the tech cut the trans shaft seal when installing the inner primary.  Bike is fine now, but dealer work always seems to take 2-3 times to get the simplest job right.  That being said, all of us in the Bay Area (and a lot of us outside the Bay Area) go to Metal Dragon in Hayward, which is Jim's (HD-Dude) shop.  Great work, great prices, and things are done right!

Well I got word from the dealer. From what I am told, the oil cooler adapter is a ring between the oil filter mount and the oil filter. He says that the adapter ring has a lock nut holding it in place and it must have not been fully tightened, causing it to loosen when the tech removed the filter. He said they pulled it apart, replaced the seal, re torqued everthing and I am good to go. Needless to say, they are cleaning the bike top to bottom and redelivering it back to me. Sound reasonable? If it is fixed, I am happy.

They stood behind their work, that's all that you can reasonably ask for.  Glad to hear that it's back together.

Curious..did you check the oil level before they picked it up from you to see how much oil you lost?

Actually the oil was still full, but anybody that has had a leak knows, a little oil goes a long way when it is being sprayed all over the place.
