Yes like one swing...problem fixed

Just did a quick check on mine...one swing.  It's never wobbled since day one.

Experianced the wobble issue myself the other day. It was magnified by the fact I was on one of those "open steel deck bridges: which give you a less then in control feeling anyways under the best of conditions. I had been on this particular draw bride over the Mississippi many times but this time the bike wanted to take the entire left and right side of the bridge lanes, Slowing down only made the oscillation from left to right slower, not less severe. Tire pressure is always checked. I noticed a little cupping on the rear tire. I have 6K on my 2011 CVO Road Glide Ultra and I had heard that the rear tire will cup. I put the bike on the jack stand and whoa! 4-1/2 swings from left to right. I brought the bike into the stealership and they adjusted the stearing head to the proper 1-1/2 swings, Actually they made it just shy of 1-1/2 swings. Up to this point I never felt a shake at high or low speed but that steel bridge sure woke me up! Thanks to this forum, I knew what to look for. What gets me is that less then 850 miles previously, I had the bike on the jack and checked it and it was about 1-3/4 swings (within spec, at less then 2). Why all of a sudden the radical change?

That's a really good question.  I hope TCNBhm can chime in on that one.  He is really good with info in SERG's.

oldrocker...Speculation here, but in all likelyhood the neck bearing was not seated well in the race to begin with and finally seated itself, making everything too loose.  I checked mine the other day on my jack...I've only got about 3K on the odometer (been too hot to ride this summer)...and mine still has the 1 swing, then back to center.  I guess you'd call that 1.5 swings.  I've not experienced any wobble thus far.  There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to which particular bike is going to be too loose, but it's likely a QC issue on the assembly line...seems like the proper way to assemble would be to torque it down to be SURE the bearing seated, then back it off to the 1.5 swing.  That probably takes an extra minute during the assembly, so it doesn't get done consistantly.  The lack of weight on the forks from the frame mounted fairing probably has some role to play as well.

Just noticed this post. My bike 2010 CVO ULTR, does not have a front end wobble. I am experiencing handle bar vibration at around 68 - 75 mph. I take my hands off of the handle bars and they vibrate, hold one side of the bars it is decreased, hold both it decrease less, however their is vibration feed back.

Replaced rear tire in Sturgis with a Dunlop American Elite, then this week replaced front with a Dunlop E3, added "Ride On" in both tires, still vibrates. Have front fairing off did the "fall away" test 1.5 swings. Added grease to the neck bearings, barely in grease in there, fall away the same. Have yet to road test. Rotors do not seem out of round and rim does not seem bent. Will check tightness of wiring harness on the frame going into the fairing, to insure no undo tightens or pulling.

After all of this if still vibrates I am not going to tighten or loosen neck bearings for now, I am going to have to go to the dealer to have them check it out and see what they have to say. Bike has only 13,000 miles on it and just started happening in the last 1,000 miles or so.

Does anyone know it the ESP would cover any subsequent repairs etc?

Thanks,

There's so many things that could be.  One easy check...are the motor mounts all OK?  That just comes to mind as being one thing that could sure cause a sudden change like you're describing.

Yes, as you mention there are many things it could be. Motor Mounts, that is my next check.

Thanks,

I have noticed more vibration in the handlebars also,,  I have never changed the front motor mount.. Could that be the culprit? I just put on Dunlop elite 3s and i do like the ride amd handling,, The vibration is getting that I have to shake out my right hand regularly,  I have WO575s for bars,,I could use some suggestions for this one,,  Got a pretty good trip soon to MV.  I have 66k on it.  Thanks

That front lower mount was a problem on those years...you might need to check that out.  There are several alternate brands that are better than the stock HD ones, but I can't name them off hand.  Twolane would be helpful on this.  Also, the riser bushings can wear.

Thanks Terry. I have the poly riser bushings under the bars. Not sure, but the might give off more vibration than the stock rubber bushings.   They are harder and don't seem to absorb as much.  So I am
thinking that might be some of it.  Maybe the front wheel isn't balanced properly.  Went out today and noticed that it was better at 70 and above.  At 60 you can notice it much more.  I heard that Velva-ride, or something like that has a pretty good motor mount.  I'll ask Don,,,  he knows everything on parts. Thanks

From reports I've read, the poly riser bushings transmit a bit more vibrations.  Here's an old thread on the motor mount:  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=38943.0
