Where's Bill Nye the Science Guy when you need him?

Put new rubber on my FLTRUSE 2 weeks ago and was offered nitrogen for $20 extra. All I could say was "ppfffffffft".

You're all a bunch of weenies!  Us tough guys use propane in our Harley tires.  When the POS bike won't run, it serves quite well as a backup source of fuel for the barbecue grill.

Jerry

What brand of propane do you use?  Coleman? I hope you are not using generic propane or that Longhorn stuff that 2lane uses.  Longhorn propane - due to it's immense flarification exponent equiviancy to 107.5 octane - will void your tire, engine, headlight, and seat warranty according to something I just wrote here in this post that nearly sounds official, but isn't.

Dyna beads biatchfest next in que - check.

Why would I pay for dyna beads?  I just used a hand full of rocks from the driveway.  They make a cool sound at low speed, like when I put a card in the spokes.   :pineapple:

As far as being a sucker if you can get it for free and you are happy with the performance of the product whether it works or not who is being harmed  must be nice to know all Hows the air up there????

Actually, the air up here is about 78% nitrogen, just like it is everywhere else.  BTW, if you want to use N2 it's no skin off my nose, and it makes no difference to me whether you pay for it or not.  My objection is to the constant airing of incorrect information based on bogus sales pitches.  A little less BS, and a little more science, would be nice once in a while.

I don't care what anyone uses as long as they don't insult my intelligence or mislead those who aren't fully informed.  Just like those 6 horsepower spark plug wires mentioned in a thread last week, if someone wants to believe that stuff it's fine with me.  I'll still speak my mind, however, and try to offer a counterpoint to the flaky stuff.  If my prose sometimes ticks folks off, I apologize.  Tact never has been one of my strong suits.

FWIW, I noticed the following in the Dunlop warranty info under the "what is not covered" section:

"Tires injected with dry/liquid balancers or sealants, or in which anything other than air has been used as the supporting medium."

I emailed Dunlop about the use of nitrogen and its affect on the warranty.  Here is their reply:

"Thank you for taking the time to contact Dunlop Motorcycle Tire Division.

Yes, the use of nitrogen will void the warranty. "

Sounds like they are taking some pages and tips from the HD customer service manual.  It is also interesting that there are a lot of HD dealers offering nitrogen.   :nixweiss:

I see that too.  I guess the dealer would be on the hook to honor the warranty in the event a failure was deemed to be caused by nitrogen.

Since most air contains water vapor, is Evian water vapor better for tires than Perrier water vapor?  I think my bike tires prefer Dos Equis vapor, actually

I (considered)  putting Helium in my tires in order to make my tire treads last 22.84% longer than without Helium.  Helium is lighter than plain air & as such is far superior to Nitrogen, in my opinion. Less bike weight per tire/ground contact point.  The lady at the flower shop is supposed to give me the last of her next Baloon filling tank.  Am trying it in the front tire first, to make bigger wheelies of course.

Can we argue discuss spark plug gaps & types and oil next?  Please?

Mine like Negra Modelo best, or if I really want to give it a treat, Patron Silver, with lime fumes...
