Blistered chrome wheels
« on: April 26, 2011, 08:09:29 PM »

Hey Guys just bought a 2008 Dyna CVO with 300 miles on it.  It still has factory warrantee on it.  I do not have the extended warrantee.  I just noticed that the chrome on the rear wheel is blistering.  My question is will the factory warrantee cover a wheel with defective chrome?  Thanks in advance.

Yes it does, as long as the ORIGINAL warranty is still in effect!

I assume you bought the bike new from a dealer who has had it in inventory since 08.  If that's the case, then yes the factory two year warranty should be in effect from the date of purchase, and it covers defective wheels including the chrome.  Instead of asking us, talk to your dealer ASAP.  Items like this are best reported immediately, so there will be no questions about responsibility.

The bike is used and it was a private seller.  It has one year left on the factory warrantee.

The advice remains the same, take it to a dealer as soon as possible.  Since it has been obviously sitting in storage somewhere for a year (300 miles?), you might get some blowback about improper storage or other excuse but don't buy into it.  I've seen some instances where many different parts all experienced failures due to improper cleaning and storage, but if it's only one part out of the hundreds of parts on the bike, that pretty much blows that theory out of the water.  Regardless, there's no sense worrying about it until you need to.  Take it to your local dealer and see what they say.  If it's defective and not damaged, it is definitely covered under the factory warranty.

2008 with a year still on the factory warranty? Splain dat to me slow. :huepfenlol2: Does the dealer claim the warranty is still in effect or the seller? I'm not taking an argumentative tone just don't understand how that happens.

I was thinking that also. To still have a year left, that 08 had to be sold new after 4/2010. Stranger things have happened, but I would be checking with a dealer ASAP.

The seller bought it new last year.  Sat in his garage.  My local dealer ran the vin# and verified the warrantee.

My wife bought an 09 Street Glide in late 08.....they were trying to bump sales in Calif and so they were extending the factory warranty by six months, at that time.  Oh yes, we got it in writing and I made sure that the expiration date reflected the same. :2vrolijk_21:

I'm about 99.9% sure that the ESP does not cover cosmetic issues.
