LUGGAGE THAT FITS THE RACK ON THE TOUR PACK
« on: May 04, 2006, 11:53:52 AM »

I had an '04 Ultra Classic, installed the luggage rack, and used a bag sold by H-D to fit the rack.  I thru the bag in when I sold the '04 (cause it didn't look like the bag was going to fit the new bike anyway).  I'm in the market for a new bag to use on top of the '06 FLHTCUSE and I'm looking for suggestions.  Has anyone found the perfect bag for this new luggage rack?

I don't have mine yet, but have looking into the same thing...one to consider is Fox Creek Leather's Trunk bag, though it might be too large. They make a nice roll bag as well.

Might try doing a search cause there was a thread about this not too long ago.  I bought one of the HD ice chests to put on mine for trips to keep water or drinks cold. Only 23 bucks.

Check this link to SAC bags.  They have modified their Ultra Rack Half Sac to fit the new rack on our bikes - moved the velcro tabs in to line up properly.

I bought the nylon bag and it seems to fit OK.  Haven't been on road trip to use it yet but will be doing so shortly.

The rack that they refer to in the link 53665-87 is not the one on the 2006 CUSE.... that one is 79148-06A. I have a Drag Specialties bag that fit on my 2000 FLHTC perfectly. I had problems finding a new bag that fit the CUSE so I took it to a bike show and Casper Leathers (they sell great chaps with lifetime guarantee) relocated the leather tabs so the tabs align perfectly and snap onto the 79148-06A rack. Cost me $20

You are absolutely right SEULTRA.  But I phoned them and the advised that they had relocated the velcro tabs to fit our rack (79148-06A) and they do.  Same deal as what Casper did for you.  Imangine many other mfgrs have done the same.  Guess they just haven't updated their website.  Anyway, it does fit out rack.  I'll try to get a photo off this weekend.

Great find! Glad they got the word that the rack changed on the CUSE. I've had good luck with SAC products. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

That Kury one looks sweet.  Might have to try it. It looks like the mounting is pretty adjustable.

Thanks for the lead DakotaZeb

A friend of mine bought this Kuryakyn bag for his Ultra.  He lives in another state so I haven't seen it.  He said the quality was very good (leather and cordura).  He felt it might be a little small for his Ultra but thought it would maybe be a very good fit for the SE since the rack is smaller.  I just haven't broke down and bought one yet.  Waiting for someone else to report back.

Check them out on eBay for $108.95 plus 11.95 for shipping.

Sure would like to see some pics of any of these bags actually mounted on an '06 CUSE.  I have been looking at T-Bags and HD bags, and so far neither has a bag to fit correctly.  I really need one for some extra space for the misses and me. [smiley=nervous.gif]

I've corresponded via email with a guy at SAC and he talks like they may come up with a unit for the FLHTCUSE later this year when they aren't so busy.  He said that the only rack that they "officially" fit is the premium tour pack luggage rack.  He made no mention of any alteration on any unit to fit the CUSE.

I sent a sketch of the CUSE rack to tech support at Kuryakyn and the mini grandtour bag was recommended.  The description of the bag looks good, but it still would be nice to know if anyone has had experience with the bag.

All previous and future input is appreciated!

I don't see that mini grand tour bag working very well.  Besides, it's too small.  If you go to the Kuryakyn web site there is a picture tour trunk bag mounted on an Ultra rack.  I know it's not the same rack as ours, but might give you some idea.

For those interested in the Kury tour trunk bag I am going to try and borrow a buddy's to try on my bike.  Problem is that he lives 300 miles away.  But I figure it's worth the money to ship it back and forth instead of buying one and finding out it won't work.  If I get this pulled off I will take some pictures and report back.  Might take a week or two.  Sound like a plan?

I am going to need something for the trips the wife and I have planned this summer.

Sounds like an excellent plan to me.  I'll be interested in seeing the pictures.  I'll agree that the mini grantour bag looks like it might be just big enough for a bowling ball.
