New to owning a CVO, but not new owning Harleys
« on: April 27, 2011, 01:24:22 PM »

Hello from Winchester Virginia!

I have been riding since the early 80, took a break as jobs, family, travel, and life's challenges managed to keep me off 2 wheels for nearly two decades.

In 2008 my wife and I looked at a SE bagger, before buying it she was a passenger on a friends Wide Glide for a ride out through the mountains of West Virginia.  She loved her first experience on two wheels so much that she wanted her OWN.  That put the SE bagger out of the equation as we needed not one but two Harleys to fit our budget.

Not long after we stopped at the local dealership looking for two Harleys and settled for an 03 Custom 1200 sporty for her and an 05 Custom 1200 sporty for me.  That day in the showroom I saw the new 2008 FXSTSSE/2 Anniversary Springer turning 360s on a rotating petestole and was blown away.

Disappointed not to have the CVO Springer, but happy with the Sportsters -- we hit the road making memories of a lifetime as we ran the back roads of Virginia and West Virginia, sometimes 2up, but mostly side by side on the Sportsters.

Two weeks ago we stopped by the local dealer looking for a backrest, on the showroom floor I could not believe my eyes.  The very same 08 CVO Anniversary Springer I had wanted in 2008 returned to the dealer with just 4600 miles and in perfect condition.  Within the hour it was mine.  I rang the bell again as we did in 2008, but this time it was with tears of joy in my eyes.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome into the CVO Brotherhood/Sisterhood.

GregKhougaz,

Funny you should ask.  My only mistake so far was to let my wife take the CVO Springer for a ride.  She dismounted with the biggest grin you can imagine and I thought I might never see the CVO's fob again.

So far she is still happy with her Sporty, but dropping serious hints on how well she fits on a Dyna Low Ride, adding that the FXSTSSE/2 would look really good next to a FXDSE2.

Don't you just love it when that happens?
You search and search for a backrest, and finally come out with whole new bike!

Congrats on a gorgeous new ride... I'm a wee bit partial to the Duracells.

Your wife should be real happy soon, as I figure they will be more on the market soon, AND there is even a matching Dyna!   ;D

Welcome to a fantastic site.

Take care & ride safe.

You got that right Grizzly,

Just hours earlier that Saturday morning I was writing down all the part numbers needed to put a removable passenger backrest on the wife's 03 Sporty, remarking that I was glad we kept the original 2up seat because the backrest was going to run a little over $350 in parts.

Unbeknownst to me I would be dropping $19k on my dream bike -- needless to say we did not purchase the backrest :)
