my noise was in the primary, the motor company says its normal. "Primary compinsator Clank" sounded like the chain was coming out of the case. valve train noise i figuared was normal, but with 5000 mile my motor it was rebuilt for excessive oil consumption. the motor company has a name for what every noise it will make and will say its normal. the dealers is caught in the middle, just gotta find one that will go the extra mile with you and explore and repair.

thanks for the input.

My first 110 in 2007 didn't make any noise.  Dealer says larger 4" exhaust and new heavy breather is making the bike even leaner than prior years 110.

They are also saying that fuel additive may help with the pinging or valve train noise but this new noise is from transmission side of engine (right side) and make severe clanking banging in neutral.  When I pull in the clutch - the noise goes away.

Hopefully Harley will make good as they have in the past.

How many miles on the bike?

Even if you were kidding, that wouldn't be funny.

The way i see it, you have 2 years of warranty,  if the bike is running alright but making a lot of noise, I would just run it until she gives up's
I know this may be hard to do, but  i just had mine in for the 1000 miles checkup or was that bend over and grab your toes.
But it seems like it makes a lot of noise but they said nothing about it, so if they don't think any wrong then I'm just going to run her,

It just takes to much time to run her into the shop every time there's a issue. So when she dose give up they can fix it all at the same time

They probably are running leaner. You can solve that problem in a number of different ways.  Fuel additive is not an option that should be expected to be done by the owner...what, they expect you to do that with every tank of fuel?  That's absurd.  Top end noise is noticeable...different/better oil than Syn3 will help that some, but it won't ever be "quiet".  Put some more miles on it and see if the "clanking" noise goes away.  My 2011 doesn't make noises like you're describing.  It'll either go away, or something will turn loose and then they'll really have to fix it instead of telling you it's "Normal".

I remember having a bad tapping noise in the front of my primary but since the SE Comp and Rivera Pro Clutch no more noise. It shifts smoother as well.

You've already got the SE Compensator in the 2011, so IF it was installed properly, and is not faulty, you can discount that one.

I'm not sayin' this will fix your issue, but you might also look into putting something like Redline Shockproof transmission fluid in the tranny...it helps quieten things down a bit, plus it shifts better...mainly it is a great product specifically made for the transmission.  You can read a million things on this site about lubricants, but the consensus of opinion is that Syn 3 is not the best thing to use, particularly in the Tranny.  The short list would be:

1) Mobil 1 VTwin 20w50 (generally cheaper and more readily available, at Wal Mart or Autozone), Redline 20w50, Amsoil 20w50...any of those are good to put in the crankcase.
2) Redline Shockproof, Belray, or Amsoil transmission oil.  I'm partial to Redline...it's pink like Pepto Bismol (sp?) and clings to the gears like grease.
3) Primary is not as important, but Redline MTL (now called Primary Lubricant) is a good one.  Some people use Automatic Transmission Fluid...or you can use the same oil as you put in the crankcase.

Whatever the case, if they say it is "normal", I'd ride the thing...perhaps as things wear in a bit more, the noise will go away.

my 2010 ultra made loud noises. Klak Ping rattle ting, I had it to 3 dealers and finally Bayside Harley put it in a dyno room and tuned it w/power commander. It was quieter than before and at about 15000 miles it almost stopped making the noises all together. Only time now i hear anything is wide open throttle 6th gear. Good luck. Oh she got her 20k mile service today still running syn3 all 3 holes.

All four of my HDs make so noise but they keep on running. If you are really concerned that the motor may give way run it harder and let-er-blow. Then the moco can fixer right up fer ya. :coolblue:
