2001 SERG stock mufflers

My 2001 SERG came with HD slip ons installed.
The stock Shark Fins came with it and I love the way they look so I want to put them back on. I have reviewed all the posts on the subject and it sounds like that if I remove the "plug" the stock shark fins will sound better and flow better.

Am I understanding the plug removal issue correctly? Will it sound good?

I have the 3 screws removed that hold the Shark Fin on but can't get the dang FIN to budge. Any tricks to getting it off?
