My review of Rinehart 4" vs my old Fullsac 2.25" mufflers
« on: May 04, 2011, 04:01:40 AM »

I said on the other thread that I would post a review, so here it is.

My Fullsac 2.25"'s did sound pretty good, but I guess I was just a little bored with them, and wanted some more sound.

I installed the Rinehart 4's (with chrome end caps) the other day- first time putting on slip ons, and they didn't give me too much of a problem getting the old ones off, and the new ones on. Having said that, a couple days later, I loosened up the right side and adjusted it, as I thought it was sticking out more....used a straight edge until I finally got it right....I hate being so fussy, but I think they're as close to being even as I think is possible.

Anyways, end result is they definitely sound deeper at idle and on the go, and a bit louder than the Fullsacs, which basically is what I wanted. You can hear a nice rumble in the background at almost highway speeds (haven't had occassion to get out on the highway yet this year), which is what I like. Some people sound like their ONLY priority when riding is being able to hear their radios (and of course I also want that), but I also like hearing the V Twin rumble too... it is a Harley after all.

All in all, I think they are nice mufflers- good chrome and a real nice sound. I'm still on the fence if the difference was worth the cost, since it wasn't a drastic difference (like going from stock mufflers to the Rineharts),  but I'll give it some more riding time, and I figure I'll grow to like them even more.

My only criticisms are the fit on the right side- the heat shield has a gap, and doesn't hug the inlet part of the muffler like the left side does. I tried adjusting the heat shield that covers the crossover part of the pipe, but all I ended up doing was over-tightening one of the clamps, and putting dimple marks in it  :-[. So, I figure I'll just replace that piece of heat shield and consider it a lesson learned. Hopefully I can undo the two strap clamps (are they called worm gear clamps?), and slip it over the pipe, so I won't have to remove the whole pipe. The only other thing I don't like is the stupid end caps screw on the top- why in the world don't they use a nice flat chrome screw?  :nixweiss:

I think you are right that many people here want to hear their radio but want something more than stock so the Fullsac baffles fit the bill. It's an economical way to go because you keep your OEM mufflers. I have the Fullsac x-pipe & baffles on two of my 110s, both Ultra Classics, and I'm happy with them. They are nice and tame, but more than stock. I put D&D BossZillas on my CVO SG when I put a 120R engine in it. They are much bigger than the x-pipe. There's a lot more flow going through a 120. The muffler sounds great, much more v-twin sound of power than the Fullsacs. I had a minor warranty issue with my D&D pipes so when I took them off and sent them back, I installed my fullsac x-pipe and fullsac mufflers on my 120 SG for about a week, and had to re-tune the motor. It sounded like my 110. As much as like the Fullsacs on my 110s, I couldn't wait to get them off when the D&Ds arrived. I moved to D&D because I needed to and love the sound. Others want the sound like you, so I understand your move to put on Rineharts. Hope you enjoy them.

Thanks rheiner- Funny, I went for a ride today, and they seemed to be louder- it must be all in my head, because I don't think they have packing around the baffles, so there is nothing to break in- guess I'm still getting familiar with them, only rode them maybe 200 miles so far.

I definitely like the sound, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I don't think I would want them much louder- they are a good kind of loud, not obnoxious, which is how I've heard many describe them as well.

To gage if the sound is just loud enough go down a city street at night and see how many car alarms you can set off in a one block span.  Anything over 3 means sound is at the right level.

Ha, funny you say that- that's exactly what I thought earlier today- I never set off alarms with my Fullsac's, but as I drove off from a Home Depot parking lot today, I set one off- I smiled, and thought to myself, yup they are louder  8)

In my assessment Reinharts are the absolute best exhaust out there.

If you need it, the customer service is top notch too!!

I put on the true duals extreme 4" on my FLTRUSE without baffles. I love the sound I still can hear my stereo and hear no complains from my wife. On my other bike I had thunderheaders 2-1 , extremely loud . I am a happier person now.

Wow, running that set up with no baffles is quieter than a Thunderheader? Makes me want to hear a set of Thunderheaders- don't think I ever have...not many around here run them I guess.
