Setup:

2010 FLHXSE - no motor work
Fullsac X-Pipe and 2.0 cores
TTS MasterTune with Steve's base map - no tweaks.

Cold or warm... it takes several revolutions before the bike fires.  I am used to a carb'ed '95 inch with Mikuni HSR carb.  A twist of the throttle would fire the bike on the first compression stroke.

Anyone have any suggestions on a mod to the Map that might help?

(I searched and couldn't find anything relevant with a suggestion).

I'm not sure but when harley went to 6 speeds they changed primary drive ratio's and to make due with previous starters and save starter wear and tear they let starter get motor cranking then let fire rather than early fire and starter problems.

My 010 SE Ultra acts the same way turns over fine just takes a couple of revs. to get it started, I always wondered if the compression releases contributed to this.  My 09 Ultra classic always startedd as soon as the button was pushed.

Mal - Any chance your warmup enrichment is off in your TTS software? Just throwing darts here.

On second thought ... I had trouble starting and found it was a problem with my compensator. Dealer warrantied with the SE Comp and bike starts trouble free.

I haven't been around too many other CVO's to garnish what is "normal".

But my bike takes, what I assume to be, 3 full revolutions before it fires.   Interested to see what others experience.

Like I said.. I am used to my 95" build that "popped" on the first compression stroke.

You're letting the engine light go off before attempting to crank it, right?  That's one thing you need to do if you're not.  I wouldn't say mine cranks on the very first stroke, but then I've never owned a HD with a carb since an old Panhead with a kick starter, and you were lucky if it started after 5 kicks.

Seriously, I'd say mine takes about 3 turns to fire, depending on operating temperature.

Yes sir... as I understand it (could be wrong) the fuel pump comes on, builds pressure and then the engine light goes out.

I have a feeling it is a combination of what was mentioned earlier... the injectors don't fire off until the engine builds momentum... limiting the kick back and thus stress on the starter.

Same as others have stated.  Turns over a "couple" of times then fires right up.  Was thinking it wasn't normal, but reading this thread it seems it is.  Used to my 09 road king that fired as soon as you pushed the starter button.

I dont know this to be a fact but a reputable tuner mentioned to me that the new bikes, by design,  will make several revolutions before firing the plugs.  I know that my 09 fires off different than my brides 02.  Her bike is running as soon as you hit the button.

I didn't even notice that Mal.  Too often do only a quick scan of a post and pay no attention to whom it's from.  Just saw the two similar and linked one to the other.  Oh well, at least you know that the other you isn't alone with his problem .

Mal, my 110 does exactly the same thing.Always starts though.
