I have a new construction house (finished in Feb 2009).  The floors are Brazillian Cherry throughout.

The floor finish (water based) is basically gone in some areas. (Kitchen, Office, den... etc).  I went back to the installer and he basically said... out of warranty.. too bad, so sad.  $5k to refinish.

Can anyone recommend a floor finish that will last longer than 2 years?

I have brazillian cherry in approx 300 sq feet of a foyer, 1/2 bath, and closet in my house.  It's 19 years old.  The wood was installed unfinished and coated with a few coats of polyurathane in a satin/semi-gloss finish.  It's held up GREAT.  We have had several dogs and even the dog's toe nails fail to leave a mark.  It's beginning to look a little dull and we're considering having it refinished with a fresh coat of urathane.  It gets a huge amount of traffic. 

We recently installed a wood floor in our kitchen/dining room and all of the boards come pre-finished now.

I used Bona floor refinisher. Wont put the color back, but repairs most wear marks. Simple to use and not a huge investment, so you're not risking alot. Whatever you go with use Bona cleaner/polish from now on.......just ask any Pro!!

If you happen to have a part box check to see where it was made. My guess is China. There was a lot of that crap shipped up here in Canada. You're lucky you got two years if it's the same chit, which I am suspecting it is.

I assume this is laminate, since solid Brazilian Cherry in an amount to fill an entire house would be worth more than my entire house.  If so, be very careful when refinishing.  And if the clear wear layer is actually worn through in some spots, the various "rejuvenator" products won't be the answer.

I think if it were me I'd bypass the jerk who sold it to you and find the actual manufacturer.  Home builders typically warrant stuff for one year only, but in many cases the manufacturer's warranty on things like flooring or cabinets lasts much longer.  If your builder won't take the time to at least look into that for you, he isn't much of a builder in my estimation. Make sure you give him all the word of mouth advertising he deserves.

Polyurethane gets my vote if you have to do a complete refinish.

No sir.. not laminate.. and not Pre-Finished! 

grc... do you have a Poly manufacturer that you prefer?  I am going to re-finish the entire downstairs (upstairs is still decent)... I want it to last longer than 2 years! 

biggest bitch is I have to move all the furniture out and be out of the house for 10 days?!?
