Box Extension outside of exhaust pipes, 2011.5 FLHTCUSE6
« on: May 09, 2011, 08:14:46 PM »

Dunno, maybe just me, but I am used to the "Look" and extra storage in the lowered boxes on my 2011 Street Glide.  It is Old School hot rod appeal I am sure, but it just looks missing on the 11.5 Big Blue... Or izzat just me??

How Cool would it look to extend the Boxes in the Bright Blue, down over the outside of the pipes with that lowered look... Anybody agree?

This is the look of my Street Glide in the back:

That same look,

Seems to me would benefit the Big Blue, HUGELY....  Extend down with the bright fire blue...

And that little bit of storage in the bottom of my Street Glide is well used for tools and such...

Blue Goose,

Did you do that yourself?  Looks good to me, a little less blocky than the CUSE standard...

Must look GREAT from behind...

One from the back with the tour pack off.  I liked the look of the Street Glide so I also installed the street glide rear fender and made the tour pack detachable.

Smoky Mountain Boy, I think your are right, AWESOME....  It is the only style thing where the Street Glide looks better.  I was thinking of upgrading my SESG with the double docking station and box, but what comes out of my research is the fatter tyres and smaller wheels and fatter seat and air suspension all add up to be what I really needed...  While I was still pencilling the costs, Big Blue 2011.5 came available, one of 4 shipping in two weeks... And it has all the extras the Streety lacks, heated hand grips and seat, Auto Locking Boxes and Forks, and the rest.

Blue Goose, you did just what I was thinking.  Get the cool "Look" of the Street Glide rear, make the top box detachable, yet have all the comforts still of the FLHTCUSE6.   I think I am really on to something here, and YOU ALREADY DONE IT!!  Way to go!!!
And it sure Cools up the Look of the Dresser when not going on a long haul Touring.  It is like.... the BEST OF BOTH SCOOTERS!!

Looks GREAT BlueGoose...   :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

It'll add the custom look to any bagger and be a huge improvement.  My wife had a standard 09 Street Glide but when she saw my 10 SE Street Glide she wanted one......   http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=32927.msg681464#msg681464

In your case Cowboy, taking an SE Ultra Classic and converting it over, coupled with the quick release tour pack.....several members have done it.  Here's a photo log of Jim (hd-dude on this forum) doing it to Jon's bike....  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=45607.0

I was planning on doing the same thing to my big blue.  I haven't done the math, but I bet it won't be pretty.  When I saw the extended bags on the other CVOs, I was wondering why the MOCO didn't do the same with the Ultra.

My only concern is matching the paint.  I put some hard bags on my 07 CVO Road King.  They looked great 95% of the time, but every once in a while, under the right lighting, you could tell a difference.

Would you go with a bigger rear tire as well?  Blue Goose... did you?

Thanks for the compliments.  I used all Harley parts - did the work myself except for the paint which was done by Boitnotts out of Fairfield Ohio.  They did a great job on the flames.  Depending on how the sun is reflecting off the bike if you look at the blue on the fender real close compared to the stock paint on the tour pack it is very close but I would not rate it a 100% match.  Boitnotts offered to redo it if I was not satisfied.  Most people can not see the difference until I point it out.  I used Deutsch connectors on all the wires going to the tour pack.  Total cost was close to $4,000.

Bluegoose...  Thanks for the details and honest feedback on the paint.  You did a super job... it looks great!

What did you do with the original fender and bags?
