TW55 CAMS, how do you like this cam?
« on: May 11, 2011, 12:42:14 PM »

This is my build, 2010 RG, 103", 10.3/1 comp., kury wild thing pistons, 53.1/2 throttle body, Revperf. welded flywheels with timken, Boss Fatcat, 30 tooth trans pulley, S.E. comp releases, Precision ems tuner, TW55 cams.
I want to here from the guys that have used the tw55 cams and how did they like the cam? What comp. will make this cam come alive? What RPM does this cam come on at? Basically I would like to learn as much as I can about the tw55 cam.

2011 cvo 110, I happy with my TW555 cams, decked and worked heads, jackpot 2 into 2 w/ V&H high out put slip ons.... 122 ftlbs TQ, I put in a barnett extra clutch kit in it. Power band is very rideabable.  I have seen a couple of bolt in TW555 and exhaust change only jobs (96",103"&110") and everyone of them needed a upgraded clutch. Oh I love the smell of tire smoke! :bananarock:
Are the andrews tw55's the same as the tw555's that you are talking about? What kind of comp. are you running?

:o I missread the cam, sorry. I never used the TW55, but I have used the andrews 54h and I use Woods TW555 now. I'm running 10.3 to 1 roughly.

I have my eye on that 555 cam also. Tell me a little about your build and why you choose the 555 cam? I'm in Cleveland Ohio.

Hey Don, on your AFR reading why does it look different between 2 and 3 thousand RPM's? On my bike Between 2 and 3 thousand RPM's it stubbles some times and hesitates. What would you suggest for a good street cam with 10.3 comp?

I can't say what would be a good cam I don't know about your heads and what they have for parts.
This build had basically no tuning, those Dobeck black boxes just add fuel by trim pots. No timing is changed and no cylinders balanced.
Crude at best. Can you imagine how this would run with a proper tune. This dyno is in SAE on a late model freshly calibrated Dynojet 250I.
Nothing wrong with the TW55 at that compression, if your bike stumbles there I suspect tune first, head issues second, you have a good pipe.

I did some research on here and other sites as well, my buddy at the dealership talk to Bob Woods told him what we were doing and my riding style. Bob recommended it, so we gave it a shot. I'm very happy with and so is my buddy with his 2011 103" Ultra road glide. Don't know your feelings on them but I use Cleveland harley sales on Lorain. I've had great results from them.

We had a 98 inch  come in for a tune.  The engine would not bust a grape for power, not to mention extreme piston slap. Upon taking it apart we found that the bore job on the cylinders was incorrect and it had a cracked skirt on the wiesco piston . looks like who ever measured the pistons did not measure in the correct location, as a call to wiesco comfirmed this very factas the location on this piston is not in the normal spot. As well the ports where very chewed up.

So we left the 55 cam in place and installed out 98 inch kit, and a set of the cnc heads. Stock t/b and a D&D fat cat pipe on this little dyna.  Here is the final sheet,

Ports were chewed up. How did that happen?

That was my weak attempt at giving the pot just half a stir. Wisely, everyone just stepped away.
