Bad timing!.....Bad stator?
« on: May 08, 2006, 05:03:39 PM »

Put the V&H pipes and SE air cleaner on, downloaded base map for the SERT. Took the bike in to the dealer last Thursday for the 1000 mile maintenance and tuning. On the way home Friday I noticed the voltage gauge was pegged on the high side. Went back to the dealer Saturday and they determined it must be the voltage regulator however; the chrome SE ones were on back order till the end of May. After explaining that I was planning on leaving for a 2000 mile ride this Friday they said they would get one from another dealer Monday. They just called and told me that the voltage regulator didn't do the trick and the stator will have to be replaced  >:( . Hopefully I will get the bike back by Thursday  [smiley=confused5.gif] . I guess it is a good thing I kept the FLHRCI for back-up.

I've never heard of a bad stator causeing a high voltage problem but I guess there's a first time for everything. Good luck getting it fixed

I was having a voltage problem on my SEUC also.  The volt gauge would drop to 11 volts, amber engine and red battery lights would then come on.  First dealer attempt at fixed was tighten wires to voltage regulator, road 200 miles and problem returned.  When the same problem happened again, dealership found bad ground wire at battery terminal.  Voltage fine since then.
I know not the exact voltage problem,  but just a FYI what I had.

One would hope the dealership put a volt meter on the bike and verified actual voltage and was not just relying on the instrument gauge.

I would hope so but, I'm losing confidence in this dealer fast!

Just got a call that the bike is ready. Believe it or not they replaced the voltage regulator and the stator before checking the voltage with a meter and determining that the gauge was defective ::) . Damn good thing this was not on my dime!

I hate it when a seal on my scoot is broken needlessly. Tends to open up other issues. Glad to hear your scoot is "all better"!  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I am glad I have plenty of dealers in my area. The problem is the good ones are far away. I had to give the local one a chance and Yup they failed. So back down to Chicago HD I go.

I feel the same way, which is one of the reasons I prefer to most of my own wreching. With a brand new scoot though I don't think I could have won either way. It ain't a perfect world but at least I got it back in time for vacation!

Rebel,  hope I did not jinx you with the dealer not using a meter comment and the problem just being faulty indication.   Think I would be a little nervous with that shop doing any further work on your bike,  but at least you got the bike back for your trip.

Ride safe.
