FLTCUSE guage replacement
« on: May 14, 2011, 07:25:54 PM »

Hello;
I have a few questions so I will make a couple of posts.

My 2010 FLHTCUSE is used. past owner installed a digital clock temp gauge.
The gauge make work OK but I cant read it  in the sun.  I have the original temp gauge and
I am going to put it back cuz it will look better.
1. I need a How-to to remove and install.
2. Is there any Mods I should know about since I have the fairing open.
Like moving the XM antenna for best reception?
I am not looking to spend a lot of money at this point like replacing the radio or gps but if I can improve
things while I am there in the fairing.
Thanks

Make sure fairing "brackets" are intact, most likely they are but should be checked everytime batwing is off.

Not wanting to spend money, there is not much to do.

You don't mention what brand the digital gauge is but most have the ability to increase the visablity if you choose that.

The stock air temp gauge, like all the Harley gauges have a reputation of being inaccurate.  HD works hard to maintain that reputation.

The front fairing is very easy to remove and only takes a few minutes.  Be careful not to overtighten when re-installing.

A magnetic socket for the lower 2 bolts can save u. when you drop a bolt, its really hard to find which cranny it fell in. I had 2 take it apart 2 locate!! And by the way, the stock temp guage just fills out the dash.....ain't worth a flip for nothing else

That gauge is really worthless.  You can get an oil temp gauge for that spot, if you want something functional.  I was thinking that some tweeters would go well in there. I guess then I would most likely remove the volt gauge.  :nixweiss:

Check..!  Thanks!
The reason I am not wanting to spend yet is I have only rode the bike a handful of times still figuring it out.
are the stock speaker good compared to others?

Thanks I have little magnets that fit in a socket...If it is a Torques or a Allen type I might need to buy something.  I will make sure I get the right tool  a pic would be nice if its not to much trouble.

Red eagle,  let us know what you find regarding gauge.  I'm also interested in replacing the air temp gauge with an oil temp gauge.  Thanks ;D

Air temp opening is good for a picture of the family pet, much better than temp gage

My air temp gauge looks just like my old oil temp gauge.  Always pinned to the right. So I'm leaving the air temp gauge then.

Like moving the XM antenna for best reception?
I put my XM antenna on top of the left radio speaker on the inside.

Ditto that....oil temp gauge works well and is useful....I get my air temp info from an external mounted Fomotion air temp gauge.
