So I had the stage III kit installed, and never really had the bike long enough after the stage one work to take note how she behaved.  However, I think this behaviour is new after the stage III kit was installed.  Not sure if this would be better here or in the exhaust section, but since it may be a function of the higher compression and the change to the base map, I'm going with the engine thread.

The stage one consisted of V&H True Dresser Duals, Monster Ovals, and Big Sucker.

My question is that when she is idling, I noticed that the front cylinder fires consistently out the back left pipe.  What I mean is, if I put my hand behind the exhaust, the blow out is of the same pressure and duration -- nice and rhythmic.

On the other hand, the rear cylinder behaves quite differently.  When cold, the rear has one to three good matching puffs, followed by one extra hard puff.  Almost like it had twice as much air expelled.  Once she is warmed up, then the puffs in between the hard puff, are less pressure than the front cylinder.

The header on this run is mostly straight, where the front has more bends and turns, so I expected it would have an easier time getting the air out the end.

I know the rear runs differently than the front, but would it account for this exhaust behavior?  Is this normal or an indication that the rings didn't seat right, or something else wrong?

When I rev her up a bit, the exhaust evens out on the rear.  The AFR at idle for both cylinders is about 13.7 at normal operating temperature.  I did notice that the rear AFR fluctuates a bit more than the front (+- .3), where the the front only fluctuates about .2 or so.  Maybe this accounts for the idle pulse variations?

The idle RPM is set per the kit's base map (SEPST) - 1000 at 96-170 deg C, and 904 from 174 deg C and up.

I can't tell what the idle spark advance is exactly, but appears to be 18 on both cylinders.

Thanks for any comments.  I'll be happy to hear that this is normal for a true dual setup, but rather play it safe and ask.  My other has a 2-1 setup and so I have nothing to compare it to.

Thanks again  :2vrolijk_21:

My question is that when she is idling, I noticed that the front cylinder fires consistently out the back left pipe.  What I mean is, if I put my hand behind the exhaust, the blow out is of the same pressure and duration -- nice and rhythmic.

On the other hand, the rear cylinder behaves quite differently.  It's like one good (matches the front's characteristics) puff, followed by two semi-puffs (3 engine cycles).  Almost like it didn't quite send all of the exhaust out.  The header on this run is mostly straight, where the front has more bends and turns, so I expected it would have an easier time getting the air out the end.

Went back out and retested to make sure I described this correctly.  Got it slightly wrong.  When cold, the rear has one to three good matching puffs, followed by one extra hard puff.  Almost like it had twice as much air expelled.  Once she is warmed up, then the puffs in between the hard puff, are less pressure than the front cylinder.

Going to edit the original to reflect this change.

Well, don't know if this is normal or not, but not so worried about it now.  I think I was suffering from the "not quite sure about everything on the bike" mode.

Took the bike down to HD-Dude today.  He did some amazing work on the bike.  Rides 100% better than when I went down there.  Also got a compression test to see what the new jugs were doing.  205 F / 200 R.  For all the things the dealer got wrong, at least they got that part right.  So now with having had Jim take a look and fix up a few things, the exhaust behavior isn't that big of a deal.

If anyone has feeback down the road, will still like to hear what you have to say.

Thanks again Jim, the bike now feels and handles like what I originally expected.   :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:
