Remote Light Control
« on: May 17, 2011, 02:04:59 PM »

I am looking for a way to remotely turn my running lights on and off. This is for my project bike and I just want to use it to show off the lighting with having to unlock the wheel and turn the lock, no other practical reason.

This would be similar to the function of remote light control for LEDs that's available but for running lights and not some necessarily some add-on LEDs.

I think one way this might be accomplished is with a remote starter but I don't want to start the motor so the application would need to be modified. I doubt that there is a ready-made product for this function but maybe someone knows of one.

Sharing any ideas on how this can be accomplished would be appreciated.

Yeah, taking the remote off one of this LED kits and wiring in a solid-state relay is an option. I was just looking for a ready made solution, not one I had to piece-meal together. I am thinking the engine starter might work as long as it's wired correctly and circumvents actually starting the engine.

Don't those work injunction with the ECM/computer module and are vehicle specific.

all you need is a remote on/off.

Maybe if you isolate light circuit with a demo switch and then turn the lights on/off.

I have not seen a remote starter for a motorcycle yet.

or maybe I am just misunderstanding what you are trying to do?

Perhaps I am getting confused by all the stuff on the link you provided. Which product item (part#) are you suggesting might work for my application?

Thanks

I have an extra set of the above mentioned remotes and module. You hook it to the fuse for the lights you want to control with a diode and you're ready to go. I'll take $60 incuding the remotes and diodes.

Just one unit needed with on/off only.

this only handles up to 3 amps, so a relay must be used.
