Please assist with plans for Shenandoah Valley
« on: May 17, 2011, 05:42:26 PM »

Hi All,

I'm planning a trip for a group of 25 or so riders down the Shenandoah Valley in September and was hoping that someone on this site has the knowledge of the best roads to travel and the best places to stay?

We've done the Blue Ridge and Skyline Drive a few times staying at Skyland Resort which most likely will be our choice this time as well, unless of course someone has another nice resort with an in house restaurant/lounge in mind.

From there we are heading south/east cross country (avoiding major cities) towards the Outer Banks passing by Rocky Mount, NC on our way to pick up the Ocracoke ferry and Hatteras, unless someone thinks it is better to simply cross over at Nags Head avoiding the ferry services and tour the southern region once we are there?

Your suggestions to assist me in making this an enjoyable trip for all will be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.  :2vrolijk_21:

I think we may know a night club in that area too!

Thanks!  I should have mentioned that we will be coming from the north and although we should be able to incorporate the great roads you suggested, a place to stay north of there is most likely where we will be staying.

As mentioned we have stayed at the Skyland Hotel right on Skyline Drive and we're looking for something new and/or possibly even better to enjoy.

Is Ocracoke worth seeing, or should we just be concerned with Hatteras, Nag's Head and Kitty Hwak etc?

only thing in Hatteras is the Lighthouse

Ocracoke is a quaint island that you could walk in a couple of hours.....it has been voted in the top 10 of Best Beaches in America for the last 10 years

Peaks of Otter is a small village on the Parkway with a great Lodge  http://www.smith-mountain-lake-visitor-center.com/peaks_of_otter.htm
