Day8
after breakfast in their local Italian eatery we said goodbye to our friends and headed south to escape the coming rain, we headed past San Jose back to Santa Cruz where we rejoined Hwy1 southbound. We arrived in Monterey, which was pretty busy on Saturday at noon, i think it was here i saw a SESG number CVO110 ride by, but wasn't able to attract his attention. We had plenty of time so we decided to checkin to a Motel and stay the night, we had parked our bikes on the sidewalk near  the  turn-around by the Aquarium picking 35$ parking tickets to boot.  Grrrrrr

Day9
rode along Hwy1, at Carmel it was signed that Hwy1 was closed after 65miles, but we rode anyway. There was quite a lot of road reconstruction enroute. Upon reaching Gorda Springs we found barriers blocking any further progress, we went into the lil restaurant for a coffee, the lady told us the road had been blocked for 6weeks with a landslide, and would probably be atleast another 6weeks before it reopened, The Heavens opened and it really pissed. so we ate lunch. After lunch (Crab Salad and coffee 20$) we doubled back the 8miles and rode the long detour over the Nacimiento Pass to the 101, then along we rejoined Hwy1 after San Luis Obispo eventually finding a Motel in Lompoc. At some stage the bike diagnostics came on again without prompting, from memory something like 55PE6 showed up??

PCH closure April/May 2011 near Gorda Springs was discussed in this thread

Day10
we continued along PCH to LA, checking into a motel near the rental station

I was born and bred in Guernsey Channel Islands, a small group of Island between England and France, so I was surprised to see The CA Channel Islands and this sign, obviously somebody from the Islands named this road

Day11
we took the bikes back, its was raining, so they didn't spend to long checking out bikes in, (we gave the guy both of our old helmets (which we were going to dump anyway) and made our way to meet up with another of my wifes old friends who lives in a permanent trailer park just 2miles from Venice beach. For the next two days we did the LA tourist things, Venice beach. Hollywood, Farmers Market and so that was our USA trip over.

The new bike had had a real good baptism with the temp gauge seeing almost both ends of the scale from the Mojave Desert to the Higher altitudes of Utah, highwinds in Arizona, hail and snow in Utah, i think it deserved a first service after a total of 2872miles. I did manage to scuff the seat once with my boot but covered it up with some boot polish. Just need to pay that Monterey parking fine with my credit card when they eventually put it online.  lol

Great ride report ice.

If you'd have posted when you arrived and where, you'd have been surprised at how many of the Nor Cal krew would have shown up.  We have a reputation to live up to. :2vrolijk_21:  Sorry we missed you.

Yeah I know JC I had a health issue about a month ago, "Stress at work" plus we had to change or flights at the last minute, originally we were flying back from SF but had to change to LA because of my father in-laws 80b.day party last night. Long story, but sort of messed up and turned our travel plans upside down.

i was posting on facebook as we went around, wasnt till after we were in Frisco that I remembered I had tapatalk on my iphone and could have blogged on the forum as well, but with the weather not being great and wanting to cover the mileage I thought...........my fault for missing out on meeting you guys

That the part of Diagnostic Mode, some how it got displayed. It allow you to search for trouble code. First is ECM then Speed Ind then Tach then ABS.

Great ride report ICE.  I'm on the East Coast, but have been in most of those places and roads at least once & I can say that you experienced some great scenery compared to our side of the States.  Too bad about the parking tickets and lost thumb ring, but all in all, not bad luck considering the weather & all that you were riding thru.  Glad you shared with us.  Ride safe.  spyder
