V&H pipes
« on: May 27, 2011, 12:40:58 PM »

Ok, I am asking for input on this subject from the members of our forum. I have the V&H  high output slip on now I want to get rid of the cat back header. So, here is the rub, What is the better pipes the V&H true duals or the x-pipe??  Bring it on, I am very interested in comments as I respect the un biased feed back of our blog.   BIRD

A lot of the people like the looks and louder sound that the true duals provide, however, there's a slight performance increase and not quite as loud sound with the V&H Power duals.  I've had both on my 110's and have opted for the Power Duals on my SESG.  I had the CAT removed and stayed with the stock headers on my SEURG.  If you go through the Exhaust thread, you'll find an answer/opinion to everything you want to know about what to use.  There's a strong following for Fulsac's stuff.  I've never used their offerings, I'm a V&H/Klockwerks person myself, and am very happy with what I've done/bought.

If you ask 100 members you will probably get 100 different answers to this question.
Back in 2006 I contacted Vance & Hines as well as S&S for tech info on performance for dressers. (Looking for low and midrange torque to make everyday usable power, not race track maximum H.P.)
They both said a 2 into 1 header was best overall but a crossover header was second and the true duals were third. Only advantage the techs saw to true duals was the sound and being able to check each cylinder separately for output.
On my 2006 CUSE they said the stock headpipe was hard to beat since the cat was in the muffler that year. So I just changed the mufflers along with intake and tuning.
On my 2009 SERG I went with the Xpipe to get rid of cat ,aftermarket mufflers and a SSERT to keep the torque and power in the everyday useful range. So far it seems to work.

It's also worthwhile to know if you'll be using narrow band 12 mm (stock) O2 sensors or wide band 18mm sensors now or even in the future. If it's one or the other, make sure you get the right one. If you want NB now and WB as a future option, V&H don't have both on the same header. You're only choice with V&H to have this option is to weld bungs.

I went with Jackpot headers to since they have both on the headers. I also have the V&H hi outputs. Food for thought. I'd hate to see you order headers for you bike and it comes with NB bungs when you may want to get a tuner with closed loop functionality requiring WB bungs...

I went with the True Duals.  My tuner was familar with them and felt he could do a better job of tuning each cylinder separately.  I have the Monster Ovals, and would agree that it is a little louder then what I wanted, but after riding them a while I think there great.
