106 DB is pretty damn loud.  80 DB is ridiculously quiet...for any vehicle.

This kind of stuff is going to become more and more prevelant all over the country if we, as riders, don't start self-policing and limit the sound of our bikes to something reasonable.  It doesn't have to be stock...just something reasonable, and use common sense when in areas where you know there is a good chance for disturbing others.  Otherwise, this kind of stuff is going to happen more and more often, like it or not.

well, I agree.  I hate to ride beside someone with drag pipes....they're not just loud, they're aggravating loud.  I love good loud pipes that have some tone/pitch that's not 'grating' (if that makes any sense.  My reinharts set off car alarms in a parking lot, but I can still hear the radio over them and they don't compare to the boom boom of the sound system in some of the cars that come down the road.  I bet the pendulum swings too far the other way before reason is established.  That's what usually happens.  I doubt we're gonna self-police our own bike community...I know the MoCo and AMA has been touting this approach for the past couple of years it seems.   spyder

I just saw this on Gizmag - http://www.gizmag.com/noise-snare-detects-loud-vehicles/18688/  It is like Photo Radar, but for noisy vehicles - automatically generating and sending tickets to your home.  Won't this be great!
