I just installed a new radio after the hk bit the big one. I used a biketronics kit and tthey also gave me the pins to connect the rear speakers....everything was plugged back in and the new radio fires up....looks good....only problem is there is no sound. I checked with a speaker and there is sound coming direct from the radio, only it's not coming through the amplifier.....does anyone know if there is some kind of amplifier turn on lead for the stock amp?
It would seem to me that the amp would need some kind of remote wire to wake up when the radio turns on. The one for the turn on of the amplifier off of the stereo is not connected.
As it was I had to connect the wires directly into the big harness to hit the rear speakers. Has anyone ever run into this?

  I'm not sure how the stock amp works.  But you are correct that most amps have a remote power turn on.  On the install of my Hawg Wired amp they have you tie into the cig lighter for remote turn on power.  Check the shop manual's wiring diagram and see if they list what color it is. Hope this helped.

Hopefully you have solved your problem by now. I am good at putting add-on amps on the toys. With the H-D amp and others the power (Yellow in most cases) goes to the battery. Than the (RED or BLUE in most cases) goes to a SWITCH wire, which keeps the battery from draining when the switch is off. If the amp comes on without the switch do not hook your switch cable to it. If the amp does not come on and you have the main power for the amp connected to the battery, your switch cable is not connected.

I was fart around with my amp this week and snapped a wire on the switch cable line.  By the time I found the break I had dismantle everything, and as you know it, it was smiling at me all of the time. Most amps do not require an added on/off toggle switch.  I like adding that switch to my system for add comfort and if you have a built-in radio like the glides and ultras connect the amp switch cable to the switch cable on the stereo. In my case on my serk it is connected to accessory Deutsch 4-pin plug using a circuit adapter harness from H-D.  The wire assignments are on the instructions.  Actually this is the best way to hook up a switch cable.

The stock HK amp needs the stock radio to turn on. The amp is controlled and turned on via a CAN BUS data system. The Radio is the CAN master. Without the proper data signal. the amp will not turn on

Wow, man this is totally contrary to what the support guy at Biketronics told me. He explained it to me by telling me that their adapter is a simple passthrough adapter and goes directly to the amp. They even sell a "Rear Speaker Kit" (They gave me one) that consists of some pins that go directly into the Big AMP plug, and even have instructions online and everything.

If anyone would know it would be you though. So now the question is, do I now have a paper weight under my tour pack or is there some way to make this work?

Also do you or anyone else know of any good aftermarket amps that would fit where the old one was, that is weather or marine grade?

If I understand stand your question better this is what I believe will solve your problem;
I took a look at the Biketronics TATAN wiring color arrangement and most likely the RED cable is a straight (+) 12 Volt battery cable.
a.   The blue in most cases is your switch (+) cable and your options are Deutsch accessory or the continuous on the radio (snap connects, solder & shrink tubes linking plugs/shoes)
b.   The black is a (-) ground cable
c.   There are the RED and WHITE audio RCA cables.  They should plug into the stereo most likely connect to the pass-through adapter that they supplied
d.   And your WHITE AND WHITE/STRIP and GREY AND GREY/STRIP speaker cables. You will need to connect directly to the speakers positive and negative phrase using snap connects or solder & shrink tubes
e.   If you have the install kit Multi-Band or Sony should have a diagram wire sequence sheet
f.   They do not show it but the RED and WHITE audio RCA cables most likely plugs into that orange module, which has a plug for their stereo.
g.   That ⅛ mini stereo plug is an audio plug for the stereo.
h.   You will need the install kit for this amp, which should have come with the radio.
If you do not have a Sony system I am not sure how to get the audio out of your system without that wiring harness or the ⅛ mini stereo plug. You have already spent a few bucks.

On the other-hand UNIQ Cycle Sounds at www.uniqcycle.com can fix you up with a 300 watt amp that is 150 watts per channel for $50 sale price they also have the 400 watt amp and accessory kit with everything that you need; your missing link! You can call them as find out if they will sale the audio RCA converter module separately.  If Biketronics sent you this module you can use any stereo. ZIP tie the two inside the fairing and you are in business

I personally have the 300 watt $50 amp on my serk and it works very well. I blow a 150 watt amp and we flip-flop for a new one with no problem. Small company great people and they will answer your questions. The only problem sense they are small leave a message, they will return your calls.
