Top End Noise
« on: May 31, 2011, 02:33:17 PM »

Anyone getting lifter noise from the top end of thier 2011 Street Glide? Just turned 4k miles and it is getting worse. Delaer claims this is normal, but being on my fourth CVO, not buying that, unless it is inherant to the 110. It sounds bad and hammers harder around 2800 rpms. Saw the other post on oil, use the Syn 3, always have.

It is.  Did the dealer also tell you that it's normal for them to replace anything from lifters to flywheels because of it?  They've replaced flywheels, lifters and now the heads on my bike......should get it back this afternoon. :nixweiss:

There is a lot of history here on the 110s and what's been replaced.  Tell your dealership that it wasn't "normal" on your 110 for the first 3,500 miles and that they need to get on it and find out what's wrong with it and make it right.

You guys aren't talking about the noise made by stroker motor short-skirt pistons, are you?

Tell your dealer if you had wanted bullchit you would have bought a bull, not an overpriced Harley from his sorry butt.

A small amount of noise may in fact be normal (there is a difference between normal and acceptable, btw).  Can't really say if what you're hearing is the typical noise that many/most have reported, or something worse that indicates a problem.  But if what you are hearing is in fact getting worse with more miles, that is NOT normal or acceptable.  Find a better dealership, or contact H-D directly.

Some top end noise is "normal", but like Jerry said, if it's getting worse, that's not normal at all.  It is true that SOME of the noise can be reduced with a better oil than Syn 3, but it'll never be quiet.

No.  The noise that my bike started making didn't start until just shy of 30,000 miles.  Maybe we're not supposed to ride them that far in 18 months. :nixweiss:
