2007 CVO Road King stock mirrors
« on: May 31, 2011, 03:58:31 PM »

I've got a general repair/replacement question. The original owner of my bike clearly didn't understand how to properly clean mirror glass. Somehow both of the mirrors were scratched up. It's the kind of thing I get to look at every time I look into the mirrors. I used a high quality chrome polish on them and it made them better but they are still messed up. Is there a way to remove the glass and have it replaced or am I stuck with buying a new pair or lightly used pair off eBay?

Nota96, If you have a local glass/mirror repair shop I would cruise over and ask them. They can probably cut out a piece of mirror for you and just attach it right on top of the existing mirror that is scratched. Most of the mirrors are are recessed slightly so it wouldn't stick out too much. The only negative I can think of is that it probably would not be convex.CAHDBIKER

You will lose the wide angle aspect and end up with a very limited view (trust me, I did it many years ago on a Honda), so it's really not worth replacing it with regular flat mirror glass.  Try jeweler's rouge (a fine glass polish).  If that doesn't work, either replace with stock mirrors or use the opportunity to change to something you like better.

If you think it's the journey not the destination you don't live in Nebraska.

Gecko, I understand where you are coming from. I was mentioning this only from a cosmetic point of view. I always look over my shoulder before I change lanes.(I don't trust the view of any mirror especially on a bike ) By the way I have ridden from Simi Valley, Ca. to Gordon Nebraska to visit relatives. Nice ride. CAHDBIKER
