BSR pain in the back of the thighs
« on: June 01, 2011, 02:24:23 PM »

I tried to do a search and really couldn't come up with anything, so hopefully someone can chime in with some helpful info.
My wife is complaining about pain on the backside of her thighs after riding 200 miles or so. I have George Anderson Tour Pak kit and have it back in the rear most setting. The wife is about 5'5" tall.
Has anyone run into this problem with a BSR? You know what they say about momma being happy.......

Maybe see if you can raise the floor boards, and sometimes my wife says the rear crash bars hit her legs (behind the knees or calf area)

I better hope that I can move the boards cause I don't know which would be worse, listening to her bit*ch about her legs hurting or complaining about having to add something else to a bike that was 'supposed' to have everything on it to begin with.  LOL

The adj. passenger footpegs that Marty offered will work great for a short person and they work with floorboards on the bike, so she'd have an option of both.

The least expensive way is to raise the floor boards or move the tour pack back up (taking the pressure off the bottom of her thighs).

As far as the passenger pegs go......she can't complain if it's something to better her comfort.   Now why would I say something stupid like that. :nixweiss:

I have a set of Kuryakyn passenger "highway" pegs on one bike and a set of PegRizers on the other one. Both required changing the passenger footboard mounts to something that the highway peg mounts could fit on. The new CUSE's with adjustable passenger footboard mounts have a different shape that won't allow either of the passenger highway peg brackets (Kury or PegRizer) to bolt on -unless they came out with something new.  ??? If you go with the Kuryakyn's make sure to check which footboard mounts will work with them so you can buy the right ones. I ended up using some Kuryakyn footboard mounts to make the PegRizers fit too.  ::)

Overall, my BSR likes being able to move her legs to different positions while riding, and it has helped her long distance riding comfort by quite a bit. We still have to get off for a short break every hour or two though.  8)

Forgot to mention that you'll need to buy pegs that match your existing highway pegs too...  ??? It's always something!

Best to have momma happy tho!  8)

thanks for all the replies, I will move the boards up and then get a run in this week-end and we will see if I need to do anything further.

The Kury Adj passenger pegs enabled my wife to change position before discomfort. And i agree, it also enabled us, to ride further between stops.  :2vrolijk_21:

You may want to reverse floorboards in back. If the BSR is shorter or to get heat away from them you can take the boards off and put left on right and vice versa. There are a couple of posts on this. This will bring position back and up a little. My wife likes this better. Good luck.

Thank you pkl, reversing them will be option number two if moving them up doesn't work. That will give me two ride variations to try out this week-end.

I think you might be going the wrong way with the boards. My wife is 5'1" and I ended up putting the boards in the LOWEST position for her. With them higher she was getting some discomfort in her legs. I put the boards mounts in the lower frame hole bringing them down an inch and left the adjustable portion of the mount in its' lowest setting.
My wife does wear riding boots with about 1 and 1/4 inch heels when we are on the bike and the choice of footwear will also make a difference in passenger leg position and comfort.

I think you may be right, this goes along with her comments after I told her I raised them up a notch, she thought I was going to be lowering them. We will see.
