By the way......a comforting note......Hwy. 50 from Lake Tahoe down the hill (8,000 feet?) is a beautiful ride.  Enjoy the scenery.....sunny and clear down here. :2vrolijk_21:

An early morning and on the road…cold but wanting to get an early start for perhaps an early end.  I am at the beginning of what some call the Loneliest Road in America…

Captain’s Log | 06.07.2011

After a pleasant stay at our host hotel it was time for me to pack up and head west.  However this time I would be traveling lighter at least I hoped so.  I was attempting to leave behind my rack bag however there was some hesitation at first from security.  I totally understand and informed them that I would open the bag for search.  Prior to conducting this effort I informed them that it was packed with clothing and left over beer!  I know what you are thinking…”left over beer?”  Yep…After a brief discussion and contact information we were good to go and go I did.

It was time to stay on Highway 50 and head towards Sacramento however before I could hardly get pass Stateline NV I ran into a Wagon Train

In speaking with the lead he informed me that they conduct this reenactment once a year and it takes them from Stateline to Placerville.  The amount of time for their travel is one week and these folks come from all parts to participate in this event.

After our discussion I saw in opening to get back on the bike and start my journey again.  He requested that if I could coast pass them without the bike on so that it would not scare the horses.  I informed him that I was going up hill and he screamed out “watch it guys he’s about to crank up!”  As I began to crank up the iron horse a young lady turned around and was looking at me.  I cranked the bike up with my stock pipes and he looked at me and said…”Is that it?”  Well!!!!  I had heard that before in my life and could not do a damn thing about it!  HA!  But this time I was in a position to conduct an improvement so it was off to Jim’s Metal Dragon to address “this” matter.  As to the other matter at least I only hear it from one person now…HA!    :o

Along Highway 50 as I recall from pervious visits, there are homes that still have snow up to the top of their doors.  However this one was in a good position and I would imagine if you require water sounds to go to sleep there would be no issues here.

As I arrived in Placerville I called JC and he invited me to come by his place and take a break.  So I took him off on his offer and all I can say is this man has a tough job!  When I arrived he provided me a tour of his first class complex and the “talent” they have.  My GOD they were even by the pool…what a view!  Poor guy!  By the way Terrie he works “hard” and never looked but I DID!

All joking aside…this place is like no other I have seen and they spared no expense to have a top shelf offering!  It was great to see JC and I look forward to sending more time with him.

After lunch it was time to head towards Jim’s Metal Dragon to address that “Is that it!” comment I received from that young lady.  When I arrived I was informed that Jim was Dyno-Tuning a bike so I asked if I could use some water to quickly wash a very dirty bike.  While washing it I heard a bike pull up with a great sound to it.  I looked up and it was Jim on SBB’s (Chip’s) bike!  It sounds really good and I was pleased to hear that it was similar to the set up I was having performed.  I do believe that Chip will be pleased with the results.

For me I could have had this work performed by someone on the east coast but why place my baby in someone else’s hands when I was going to be near the “Master”!  Jim was very kind to me and I really appreciate the opportunity to visit and have work performed at his shop.

It was now time for me to head towards the coast so I was off to do so…

I have arrived…San Francisco

Needless to say there are a number of local seafood restaurants in the area and I was in the mood for a good one…”Wonder if they have a Long John Silver?”  mmmmmmm…   ;)

In a distance you can see the inclining streets…

I have performed my share of this effort but never got paid for it.  We had a good conversion and he makes a fair amount of money from the tourists.

There was a nice blues band playing here…sounded good for a Tuesday night…

It’s sun set and the area’s view changes…

And here it is a night…The Rock!  Now wait a minute…I am talking about this rock!

You have to go to the real west to still catch a wagon train. :2vrolijk_21:

I knew you'd enjoy Hwy. 50 from Stateline to Sacramento....like you said very serene ride.

Oh, so Jim showed up just in time to let you use the new shop bike......great.  It's a 2011 and it just came in from the east coast.  Let us know if it's working out well enough for a shop bike while Jim's working on yours. :nixweiss:
